Hello, all. Just wanted to see what weirdness we can find in cyberspace together. Post your links to the most bizarre websites you can find.

The RULES:

1) KEEP IT CLEAN!!! There are people of all ages on these forums. Please be mindful of that. This means: NO porn, NO obscenities, NO graphic violence.

2) Let's not turn this into political / religious debates, please.

3) I can't think of any other rules right now, but just use common sense.;)

For the first submission, I offer:

my wife and i were lookin up the origins of the eohippus prehistoric horse and we clicked on most of the links and lo and behold we found a site on humans dressing up in S and M gear prone on their knees dragging amish looking horse carts and being whipped to make the carts to faster...very kinky buy no sexual behavior at all

but anymore detail into this extreme fetish site will bring on some inappropriate behavior so i will not leave an url link

but beside the lingerie latex women dragging carts, the next most unusual site or section i have seen on the internet is the political war discussions here on macrumors where fellow mac users, who would otherwise be brothers in arms, are out bashing each other over political differences

again i will say, back in 2001, i brought on the political talk without realizing it would bring others on board and often turn into some hotheaded insulting back and forth...now the ugly arguments are on this site everyday and i really feel sickened by it even though i still like politics as it exists in our country...but i can't see how it relates to macs, mac osx, or mac applications for us who love the macintosh platform:rolleyes:

heheheh no worries, I knew what you meant ;)

Okay then my take on it is if you give too much away about the nature of the site then it spoils the impact and effect, a subtle 'enable pop-up''s' and a knowing ;) is a hint that there's some harmlessly corruptive Javascript about to take place, without totally giving the game away.... automatic blocking of pop-ups is there for a reason a quite obvious one, and hinting that you may want to turn that setting off is as subtle as it is direct.

As for the D/L's, granted... ;) but that had totally slipped my mind as it's been a few years since I frequented jodi.org, but again, had I remembered that they (I'll come to what they are in a mo) automatically D/L then I'm not so sure I'd have warned people... cruel yes... but it's part of the concept of jodi, a certain degree of faith is required obviously when linking to sites posted by members, but I know of no one on here that'd post something destructive and harmful to someones computer, and every user has the option to cancel the D/L, close the windows (rapid option+w several times) or just quit the website.

But to give a obvious warning would have in my opinion totally missed the concept and point of jodi.org, and for people to click links in a thread titled 'What's the WEIRDEST website you can find?' then it's plainly obvious that the conventional is unlikely to apply.

As for the files that began to D/L, these are small applications (Director created if I recall correctly) that further extend the concept of jodi.org from the Web onto your Desktop (where it is much more effective) totally harmless but really do give the impression that your Mac is falling apart and that something very, very wrong is happening.

Of course you have to manually launch on the Mac because of the lack of an autorun.exe ability, so it loses some of it's effect because it requires the user to launch them, but it's still amazing stuff.

They do however offer a good opportunity to scare the life out of someone on deadline day(OS 8-9 only unfortunately) by subtle replacement of say a Photoshop icon on one of these files so that a person clicks on what they think is Photoshop is infact a virus-like, system breakdown animation that will convince them that their computer has died, and quite spectacularly at that, when a simple option+q will quit the effect and return them to there desktop quite safely... maybe a evil thing to pull off on 1st April if you work with someone that still uses OS 8 - OS 9 and needs alittle lightening up.

For an explanation about the jodi.org concept go here (perfectly safe.. heheh)

Cruel.com has always been good for bizzare links.
I put in the link for the beginning of the archive:

http://www.cruel.com/archive.php/1996/4

"When Cruel Site of the Day was founded on April 1, 1996, you couldn't pick up a newspaper or magazine without seeing Glenn Davis. The founder of Cool Site of the Day was saying chirpy things like this:

"I view the Web as I view life, with the sense of wonder of the little boy that I carry inside of me. When he says, 'that's cool,' I listen." (Websight magazine)

It was an ugly time. Somebody had to make a case for the other side -- bitterness, sarcasm, disappointment, despair, perversion, anger and bad taste"

Many of the links are 404ed now, but Bonzai Kitty was on there, along with a whole bunch of other weirdness.

I think my favorite is Morbid Fact du Jour (http://asylumeclectica.com/morbid/)

NOTE: Some of Cruel's stuff is definetly not work friendly.

Boohbah (http://www.boohbah.tv/) (odd children's site)

The moving browser window (http://www.lebonze.co.uk/stuff/move.htm)

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins (http://homepage.mac.com/evanbaumgardner/iMovieTheater6.html)

That kind of reminds me of this one, which is weird but weird with a purpose (and a slew of awards! ): http://www.aisforapple.net/

Interesting. Obviously both sites are by web developers who are anxious to show off their skills.

I hope The Beatles don't see this guy's front page, though. You know how they are. ;)

I don't know. They might have gotten permission. There's clearly some money behind this project, as evidenced by John Malkovich's voiceovers.

This is just plain strange, and entertaining. And don't worry, there's no scary screaming zombies popping up randomly (I hate those things!).

www.strindbergandhelium.com

Click on the four images, and you get short animated films (about a minute each). Hillarious, and bizarre!

Wow....old thread. I read all of it and followed the links though, so cool. :)

I can't believe nobody has mentioned http://realultimatepower.net

And to comment on someone's post, I had the "dolphinsex" link in my sig once. Hey, you never know when that site may come in handy. :p

I had some other pretty weird ones, but I forget lots of them.

There seems to be a sequel to that one:

www.chickenfight.com

Not as good as the original, but still bizarre.
