GPS works terrible in NYC area

I am trying to figure out if it is only my phone, but the GPS works terrible in NYC area (at least the areas where I am). I am using the GPS Tracker application, Google Maps and I even decided to write my own to test things out. The GPS coordinate updates are so inaccurate and do not update frequently.

Anyone experience similar problems?

Specific areas of poor quality:

lower manhattan
brooklyn
midtown manhattan

In general I have had less than perfect GPS reception in major cities with large buildings on my car gps. Just my two cents..

Yeah it's really jumpy here in the city. I find it works a bit better sometimes with wifi off when you're walking, because there are so many networks to join, as you walk it's constantly switching between them, and it gets confused (at least it seems that way). Helps battery life, too.

You hit it right on the head. My TomTom and Iphone does the same thing. It has to do with the buildings. It is funny to watch sitting in traffic and the GPS has you going sideways.

Interesting enough my indashboard car GPS works so much better than the iphone GPS... same area, same time...

GPS is very tough in cities with tall buildings that block line of sight to the satellites.

When I purchased my brand new 3G one month ago, v 2.0 gave me a great experience through the GPS: it used to work fine in the city, the country, on my car.... and always.

SInce I actualized to v 2.0.2, GPS just works with WIFI, rarery under 3G and never with EDGE.
A GPS wich just works with WIFI its absurd, I always know where I am when under WIFI :o)
Its imposible to use it on my car or all the places it used to work

Apple care told me its not usual, but Im not the only one to have reported this problem to them (!) So, someone else its suffering this outside!

Maybe 2.1 will solve this? Hope so!
