Looks not too bad but I'm not too sure if it'll be easy to play though. I'm used to hard button controls like PS2 game pads and stuff. $10 is quite a bit. Should have a free limited version for people to try out the controls and see if it's suitable for them IMHO.

I'm still considering. Will update you if i do purchase it.

I bought this today. Mini Review:

Can have your own music playing :)

Settings

Duration: 5, 10 and 15 minutes
Difficulty: Easy, Normal, Hard
Languages: Lots
Controls: Decent set of abilities for the players, see attached screenshot

Leagues: English, Italian, French, Liga, German, National
Cups: International, European Club, European National, Asian, American, African

In terms of the English league the teams are

Man Red
Chelsea
London
Liverpool
Merseyside
Aston Villa
Blackburn
Portsmouth
Man Blue
West Ham
Tottenham
Newcastle
Middlesborough
Wigan
Sunderland
Bolton
Fulham
West Brom
Stafordshire
Hull

I'l leave you to guess the rather obvious team names that aren't the proper names.

Can change the kits from home to away for each game

You have the ability to change the team both in terms of formation but also the players on the pitch. The squads seem reasonably up to date with the latest transfers, Man City didn't have Robinho though.

Controls were pretty good but will take some learning to master all the moves. Getting sent off is quite easy as shown above in the video. I lost my first match 3-0 having have 3 men sent off.

The players get tired during the game with a bar at the top right used as an indicator.

Some screenshot have been included below.

This is by no means a comprehensive review but of all the bits of the game.

Knowing what I know now I would buy this game again. It looks like it will be quite a good game and has lots of trophies to win :) Although if we were to believe the football pundits my season is already over after the first game :D.

If anyone has any questions feel free and I will try and answer them.

i think this is one of the best games out for the iphone, the controls work surprisingly well, and it feels like an actual console game.

finally an interesting game! I would love to play this with physical buttons tho. also, this is more like nintendo ds graphics rather than psp, prolly graphics will get better as developpers get more familiar with iphone in time..

I'm guessing Real Football 2009 is just non-american title of the game? They should really remove it from the U.S. store. People are going to get confused.

Finally!!! I have been playing pool and bowling games on my phone/(s) in the past. They were the only ones that were worth playing IMO. But to be able to play SOCCER.:) These are the glory days. If you have ever enjoyed a console soccer game, you will not be let down. The controls are complex, but just go through the training, it only takes about 3 mins, and you will be scoring goals in no time. My only gripe, I wish you could pick european club teams, or maybe you can and I have not figured it out yet. I'm writing this review after playing the game for the past 3 and half hours. Which is about how long it took to kill my battery from 100 percent. More games from these guys please:cool:

This is really good, though they seem to have weighted Andy Johnson's scoring skills a bit above real life... He just got me a hat trick in his first game and it's been a looooong time since he did that :-)

They haven't done themselves any favours having the same game up with two different names, this would be much higher up the 'most popular' charts if they'd only put soccer on the US store and Football everywhere else.

I know what I'm doing sort of. But on the training for a long pass it says touch B and drag upwards??
What does this mean as I can't seem to do it????

If you press B hold you finger on the screen and move your finger upwards. This will do a long aerial pass.

I found it funny when Phil was demoing it, he was like, "I'm a homeland guy, I'll go the U.S, and I'll play...Italy, as you know, were the World Cup winners in 2007."

Just stick to Macs eh Phil? ;)

And the demo - the goal Phil scored, it really made the game look crap. I'd much rather have a ported version of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (or future 2009 version) on it than that. Can't beat PES for realism.

Its a good game but i found the controls difficult to get used to...even more so if you have a screen protector on your phone. Also penalty kicks are significantly difficult (i've only won 1 out of 7), commentary should be added and goal celebration should be improved...right now it looks like a bunch of players chanting and praying to some kind of oracle

xUKHCx
Sep 13, 2008, 06:06 AM
I only had one penalty in a match but completely missed so I tried the penalty section of the menu and bloody hell they are hard to score.

I only have a couple games left in the league and I yet to loose a match, this is on the hardest setting with game time set to 15 minutes. It is well worth the price but it could do with a couple of updates.

Yes, it was kind of hilarious the first couple of times, but it looks pretty stupid now.

Does anyone know what the two bars in the top-right corner of the screen mean? I assume the bigger one reflects the condition of the player, but what about the little orange one above it?

I am not a soccer [football] fan, however this is perhaps one of the best games I've played on the iPhone to date.

I'm averaging a red card per match. Very fun though and moves quickly without the 'phantom falling on the ground and writhing in pain only to spring up after being helped from the field' performances.

EvanLugh

Def. my favourite game. 1 problem is too many red cards and holding B to chase/tackle then having to press it long and hard (that's what she said) again to pass.
9.5/10

Sometimes the little one is green.

One bug with condition is that when you bring on subs, their condition drops almost immediately so it's like they've been playing the whole match...

Anyone else notice this?

I have played quite mammoth sessions, about 2 hours straight, and it hasn't drained the battery any more then running other applications.

The one thing that annoys me is the auto player selection when defending... it jumps between players far too quickly and should have a setting that enables "auto or manual player selection". Other than that it's a superb first attempt at a footy game...

With the success of the App Store how long until EA announce FIFA 2009 I wonder.

Really I thought it was quite good at selecting the defenders, perhaps we have different style of play. You can tap anywhere on the screen to change which player is selected.

For some reason, when I play the game in any cup or league mode, it always chooses the same stadium for me (Lombardo stadium I think). Anyone knows why? I don't see an option to set stadium to random in cup/league mode.

This game doesn't really affect it going down any faster than it normally would when playing a game. Or at least it doesn't for my iPhone.

Yeah doesn't really affect my iPhone/iPod. I could play for an hour and my battery remain full or just under full. IT could be different for other people, though.

I got it because the graphics looked good. I'm having trouble understanding how it works, though. Part of my problem is that I don't know much about soccer -- beyond kicking the ball toward the proper goal. I'll have to read about how the controls work, and how you get the player to the ball. I wish there were a "slow mo" mode for learning. Everything happens too fast for me. :(

Finally managed to complete this game. It was a long long road but today I just won the Spannish league completing my trophy cabinet.

I had hoped for some sort of recognition from the game such as a congraulations screen or something of the sort but alas no.

Any one else actively trying to win all the leagues/cups?

I just play a quick game or two when I'm bored. I really have no interest in the league portion of it. But then again I'm not really a soccer fan either. Although I'd love to see some other sports games come along with the ghost buttons. I think the interface works really well.

I play while commuting in the morning and I've won all the cups and am now on the Italian League after winning the English League. I am not a soccer fan at all, but this game has the best sports gameplay hands down for the iPhone. I keep hoping a 'real' [American] football app will come out, but nothing thus far.

I love this game, play it all the time, two things I cant work out about the keeper.
if its a goal kick how do you get the ball in the air? I only seem to be able to play a pass along the ground, and when the other team is attacking and about to shoot can you take control of your keeper??
