how to goto desktop while keep a game running

i asked this question on the gaming forum, did not get any answer..so i m trying here
how can i get to the desktop while still keep a game going on..like how do i minimize the game..
coz i play medal of honor a lot..and often i get stuck somewhere so i need to find over internet how other guys did it...right now i quit the game..then read...and then again start the game...it sucks

I have Quake3 running right now as I type this.
Command-tab in the game switches to the finder.

If that doesn't work, cmd+m will minimize to the dock.

its still not working..tried cmd+tab and also cmd+m...nothing happens...
is there a setting somewhere that i hv to change???

perhaps I´m wrong but wasn´t the combination "apple" - "tab" instead of "cmd" - "tab" ?

have you tried "apple-h" or "apple-m"?

Some games won't let you minimize in-game. Especially in multiplayer games, it allows people to cheat much easier.

i did that..but it just made the window small..(increased the resolution) and i could see the desktop..but still the mouse pointer was not going outside the window.

and about the multiplayer thing..that may be true..coz it has a multiplayer option. although i was playing singleplayer.
