I am beginning to know the look of the frozen apple start up logo moreso than the feel of having a phone for the day. I am tired of my phone freezing after soft resetting... I am tired of it taking 6 hours to restore, reinstall and reupdate all of my music and apps to fix the problem, but only temporarily...because this is beginning to happen 1 or 2 times a week now on average. I am a smart iPhone user in the know, I am aware of resetting after installing apps, I am aware that is a smoother process to install things via itunes instead of over the air, I keep it up to date, bla bla bla... I know how to use it properly... in that case, why does it keep happening? Has anybody experienced this issue as much as I have?

Yes quite a few. I was having to do it daily if not more so. However there are possible solutions to solving teh ALOD but not ultimately the cause. If you have jailbroken your phone then check out the details posted here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=554492). If it is not then try these (http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/08/08/fix-iphones-apple-logo-screen-of-death-with-recovery-mode) steps (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=6180860#post6180860).

I imagine/hope that 2.1 software on Friday will fix this.

Those first steps I have done repeatedly however that second one I have not tried out, attempting this now.

My work machine does not have the latest iTunes, not even 7.7...and everything is blocked. If I were to guess I'd say that this version of iTunes will not allow me to do this trick, in which case I am SOL until the end of the day, again.

Yea, apparently this loading screen of death was also affecting iPod Touch. Has anyone heard for sure whether or not this latest firmware update actually fixed it? I too am tired of restoring my blasted phone. It's probably the worst error I've ever encountered with an electronic product. Hopefully this newest update will resolves some issues but I haven't heard anything from Touch owners posted anywhere. And Apple certainly isn't saying anything...

Yes, the 2.1 software appears to fix the problem. It also GREATLY speeds up install/upgrade times, even with 70+ apps installed. Oh, and the UI is more responsive, and apps load faster and close more smoothly. I can't wait to get it on my iPhone 3G!

That's great to hear. I can't wait until my phone can have all the functionality it was supposed to have when I bought it! Heh. It's going to be nice to be able to use it without fear of losing an operating phone through out the day. Not to mention the late nights of restore sessions. I certainly won't miss those.
