ok I've contacted some hotels and this is what we're looking at...

July 4th weekend is something called Essence Festival...a big weekend for downtown New Orleans...we cannot get any availability...

however...the following weekend....which consists of July 12-14 we can get in...

The Marriott Hotel at 555 Canal Street is where u should make reservations...

Call Michelle at (504) 553-5533 for reservations....make sure to mention my name when calling so she gives u our rate...

$79 per night...up to 4 per room occupancy...

I got quoted on 10-15 rooms...but if more is needed it shouldn't be a problem...

**Please email either me or BacktotheMac to let us know u are coming...

hope to hear from u guys soon!!:D

Lucky Dogs are hot dogs that are sold out of stands on Bourbon street. They are great once you have a few in you. The sausage ones are the best, and man they are friggin huge.

Im sure i will manage... :)

I always have this reputation as being "stripper obsessed"

At my last job at this advertising agency there was this big meeting we had about relating to your clients and I volunteered to act as a client...

Big Mistake... as a few of my coworkers immediatly started pitching me "stripper-centric campaigns" and things got WAYYY out of hand.

It was a good time nonetheless... and I'm sure new orleans will rock... and with a bunch of young men running around naked women are sure to be found easily enough.

Good times.

this is, along with casinos, is the fastest way to remove money from your pockets. I never really enjoyed these type of clubs all that much, I've been to my share because of numerous reasons, all because I was going along with the group. But I've never gone to one on my own.

Besides, you wouldn't be able to post the pics on the forum, that wouldn't be any fun, now would it.....

Well, I won't be able to make it down there. Besides not being able to take any extra time from work, and the fact that I have already planned my vacations (and had them all approved). I think the other tech at work might be taking that week off (that bastard).

Maybe we could plan one for next year on either side of MWNY to meet up here in the Boston area?? We could connect at the Sam Addams brewery. :D Unless you would rather arrange it for the cooler weather (to avoid the July heat). Get some rooms at one of the ski places that are just a short hop from my area would be cool... Besides getting to check out some snow bunnies is always fun. :D There are three airports you could fly into, so you don't HAVE to go into Boston/Logan.

Just thinking about where the next geek-fest could happen...

Hey eye, or someone with a decent camera (film or digi), take plenty of pics and post them up each night (if you're not too blitzed that is) so that the rest of us can get in on the fun. :D

I didn't think u would be able to make it...but Boston sounds great to me...u know I want to come up anyway! Some of the people around here have been talking about setting up other meetings according to whichever MacWorld may be taking place in whichever city, so if we can get a group to Boston I'd be there! :D

Also...I know we'll be taking pictures...I've got to...and I can work a camera drunk...he he he

my friends here still cannot believe I'm organizing a gathering of geeks...ha ha ha!!! :D

Just a thought about keeping this topic in the forefront: couldn't this thread be made a sticky, so that it stays at the top no matter what? Either that, or make a new thread as a sticky, or announcement. Kind of like what Duke's done in the avatar submissions forum.

I talked to Arn yesterday by e-mail and he said that he was going to put something on the front page. I like the sticky idea though.

Basically, out goal is to turn you all into quarter rats in a two day period. We will show you the food, drinks, and culture of NOLA. It will be a blast, and a whole lot of fun. Also, If anyone wants a very upscale expensive like 100$ - 300$ a night hotel, PM me, and I will put you into contact with one.

We will all get there, meet, and start cruising the quarter. Show you the river walk, eat, drink, you know the rest.....

Yo B2TM, I have a request. As a fellow southerner and a fairly frequent visitor to NOLA, I implore you to avoid such tourist traps as Pat O'Brien's and the Funky Pirate. Please, I'm begging you! Let's give these folks who are planning to come a long way for this a trip that they couldn't get on a fraternity formal. You dig? :)

he he he...as much as I cringe at going to the place...and since everyone keeps asking about telecasting...we could very well end up going to CATS Meow...they do have a webcam....ugh.... ;)

I was thinking doing the typical places....Pat O's...Preservation Hall for those who like Jazz...stuff like that on Bourbon Street....

but there are so many incredible restaurants here....we should do at least one really nice place....and then hit all the smaller scale ones...

u will get your grub on...that's for damned sure! :D

Hey, I was the doorman at the funky pirate and tropical isle for almost 2 years. I agree they are tourist traps. I know there are more than enough places cheaper from which to choose...but maybe?

Sorry to ruin all of the 69 posts fun, but I must. I hear what you guys are saying about Pat O's and some of the other places. I guess you're right. You only get one chance to use your New Orleans virginity, so you might as well do it right. Fair enough. Man, I keep thinking about how BADASS this is going to be. Oh, by the way, I had no idea that you were a doorman at the Pirate. That's somehow funny to me, man. No offense meant, of course. ;) And you're right about Big Al, too. Truly incredible. Oh hell yea. You're going to see a massive throw down when I come back to NOLA. I haven't been there since I left in 95, so I am going to tear the house down my brother. Same with MrsBacktothemac;)

It was a large bowl of Sweet and Sour soup. That boy is LARGE. He's only like 5'6" but he's ROTUND. Not exactly pretty neither.......... distinctive though.:D

It's funny, if I'd convinced Da boss to do Mexican instead of Chinese I'd never have seen him in person. The funny thing for ME was that the two guys he was lunching with used to be regulars at Computerware Capitola where I used to sell Macs.:D

i know he teaches over the hill in los gatos but i didn't know he lived in the santa cruz area, but with his money, who would live in the silicon valley proper with all the smog, traffic, and crime:p

i would love to see the woz one day and he is so low key that the press still thinks steve j is steve w...man, the american press are idiots, but steve j is getting hefty himself these days and if he doesn't shave, then maybe they could be the apple twins:p

I live in Capitola (just south of Santa Cruz) and work in Los Gatos. My office is at Andrews and Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos, the restaraunt is 1 block away at Santa Cruz Ave and Hwy 9.

He's proportionately WAY more overweight than SJ. He's got the classic Programmer's build. I saw SJ at Flint Center a couple of years ago when the iMac rev E was introduced and he's just a little padded out.

Woz looks really goofy in cargo shorts and a Polo shirt.:D Though he did seem in better health than when the pics of him playing Brick-out were taken he still has that whole late-night-tinkering-last-night look going.

Man, I have to get out of Alabama. I am so ready to either dive into the tech area, or go to Washington and serve my country. I just have to wait for the Mrs to graduate so that we can get out of here. She will make more money than me unless I go for CCIE or something like that.

OMG, dude I had not even noticed. That is cool, I guess. Well, it is good for the site in the long run, and that is what matters when you really think about it. I would love to work for the FBI. My background is in counterterror, so I would fit in with the new structure. :D

Only when you start to have three way conversations with yourself... That is when you know you need some serious help and to make reservations in the rubber room hotel.

Or you could have someone go with you and be the "stunt c*ck". That way, you don't have to worry about catching anything funky and passing it along. :D

Especially with eye looking at that waitress of his ;)

I was wondering why someone didn't bring that 'up' before :D...

You will have to give a full debriefing on how it goes with the waitress mission. We want video, stills and a full report.

As for MRGF 03, I would like to have it up in this neck of the woods. IF there is enough real interest, I can call some ski lodges and see about getting some rooms for MWSF's time frame. I won't make the calls unless I get solid committments though.

I was thinking January, the same week as MWSF is running... If we go north enough, there will be snow on the mountains, since they make it if it's not there. It's almost always cold enough by then to have it. :D

Well, I am thinking about Birminham, Washington, or somewhere out west. My wife wants to move back to Louisiana, so we will have to see. Don't really know yet because it is a year away. I think it will be good to get out of Tuscaloosa. Birmingham is nice, and my favorite, but the ole lady says Lafayette.

Family, that is where she is from. I lived there for 4 years, and I do like it down there, so it is a possibility.

She is in love with Lafayette. Being from there she has so much family there. The nice thing about it is everything is new. They have put a lot of money into making it as nice as possible, but it relys on oil way too much.
