Ipod Touch and scratching

Hello, I am planning on purchasing one of the new Ipod Touches. I was wondering if the screen still scratches easily like the old Ipod Videos. I keep hearing that the Iphone and Ipod Touches have a nice screen that prevents scratches, not sure if that's true. Do you recommend purchasing a screen protector for it?

screen protector isn't necessarily needed, but a case is.

The screen isn't the problem. It's actually extremely scratch resistant. It's the back of the iPod you have to worry about. It gets scratched very easily.
