Give me a week.
I just got the shoes, the sensor node thing arrives tomorrow.
The iPT arrives Monday.
The shoes are the typically ridiculous design of all modern running shoes made by high end makers - fluted with oddly fairy-cake colors. Removing the foot pad lining on the left shoe reveals an indent of hard plastic with a foam nub to be removed allowing the sensor placement.
You could just buy a pouch to attach to any old sneaker, though.
I've been doing recumbent biking for months, so now I can switch over to running and monitor progress.

yeah, that's what I do. I have a few pairs of running shoes, so that makes it easy to switch the sensor around.
Looking forward to hearing your impressions of the nike+ experience on the touch!

So what kind of things can you do with the nike+ app anyways? I know it's for runners, but that's it.

basically it's just for running and walking, and that's it. it tracks your distance, pace, calories, and then the rest is on the nike+ website - challenges, training, etc.

I am looking forward to measuring and pacing active, outdoor workouts. Generally you can only do it well on gym equipment.
I'll try to post a whole run down of the Nike+ system in about a week, because they don't describe it very well on the Nike site, or the Apple site. It's an utter marketing shame that Nike/Apple don't describe the product's uses in more detail. I couldn't find anything decent on Nike's site, and Apple's description is minimal.

I am planning on using the iPT with Nike+ as well but I am not sure how much the weight affects the running. I am using a shuffle rite now and its perfect. I was thinking of buying the sports band only but I really like to listen to music while running. so what I am thinkin is, what might be the best way to attach the iPT. An armwrist or better to have something round my waist? any suggestions?

It is only 4 oz. That's negligible. I suspect the size of it might be more issue in running. If I could figure out which arm band is best to keep it from jettisoning through space I would buy and try.
At present I am mildly infatuated with the DLO sports band/action jacket. Just not sure if it fits the 2G.

I run, but I am a better swimmer.
Might the Nike + App work if I had an underwater proof case and possibly inserted the little bluetooth sensor in a flipper or fin? Or maybe attached somewhere along my jammers when it records the kicking from my thighs or from breaststrokes on my arm? lol Sounds kind of retarded, but I wonder how effective it might work underwater, knowing that one person can burn a calorie every yard they swim. Each lap across a regulation sized pool is 25 yards, so 25 calories per lap across. Now THAT would be something awesome to record... :D

i really don't the weight would be a factor, but you just need something to keep sweat off of it, like some kind of waterproof case.

I doubt there's enough impact to trigger the sensor properly as you kick. That, and the disruption in your pace at the walls would throw it off completely.
And there's no way you burn a calorie per yard of swimming...I'm definitely not burning 4000 calories per practice. Would be nice if I was though. :) A high-intensity freestyle swimming workout will burn ~850-1000 calories per hour for a ~200 lb. person.

Hm, never knew that. I guess I cannot believe everything I hear. (Unless you're Michael Phelps) XD

I recommend the best case for you would be the Griffin iClear case. Obviously, they haven't made any new cases for the line of refreshed iPods, but they have the best reviews I know of.

I got this mail from the DLO Support today.
"We apologize for the inconvenience, the DLO products have to be recertified by Apple in order to state compatibility. We are in the process of this now.

Ok, here's how it goes with NIKE+ on the iPT. I just began using it last night. No screenshots, but I will describe what I see and know so for. It will take a while to fully probe all function and accuracy.
• The shoes have an indent for the tiny sensor. You remove a foam nub and put in the sensor. Simple. Replace the foot pad and you are ready.
• Make sure you have Nike+ loaded on your iPod and play with the program settings if necessary. I think this is where I set up the sensor. It asks you to walk/run around to active the sensor and allow the phone to recognize it. After that you have full access to the program and all functions. I remember entering height and weight here as well.
• Opening the NIKE+ program brings up a screen with "WORKOUTS" . Basic, Time, Distance, Calorie and Calibratrion.
• Calibration gives you a time/distance recognition feature. I picked a 1/5th of a mile calibration but by the end it told me I already ran half a mile. -_-; I have no idea how far I ran, but it told me it knew.
It behaves like a music player - you hit play and a female voice says "BEGIN....WORKOUT," or something like it. Then you run and it registers.
• You can pick your workouts by time, distance or amount of calories you want to burn. So I assume (haven't used it a second time yet) it tells you when you have hit your goal and you can stop.
Then when you plug it into the computer it will send the data to NIKE+'s website, if you allow it. And there they will track your workout progress over time. Pretty neato-keen stuff, indeed. Nothing too complex or bizarre, just prudent information and resource management.
You can choose playlists to run through while you run. Now I have to make a special Nike+ playlist for the iPod. It also gives you the choice of a 'danger' song you play when you hit the panic button, to give you the motivation to complete or get over a difficult hurdle or boost of expenditure, etc.
It'll make me run! That's for sure. Running always sucked for me because I could never gauge much about the runs I did. The program is good, and it isn't too baroque, intimidating or fussy to set up. So you can just get out there and start after a minute of entering vital stats and walking a few steps.

it is almost the same like what you have seen on nano. only different fact is UI. after recognizing receiver, your touch adds one more tap which you can see when you hook up with itunes. it is Nike+ipod.

Quick question about the music playback:
I made a playlist for running, but I would like for it be played back in random order. I can't seem to find a way to tell the ipod to shuffle the playlist...? When I get to pick the music, I can either shuffle or songs on the ipod, or play the playlist.....no way to shuffle a playlist?

Does the regular playlist selection allow you to do this? I don't actually know since I don't use playlists. Anyway, if so simply start your music normally, and then go into the run app and start the workout selecting the 'Now playing' option on the music menu.

will the app already be on your touch when you get it out of the box or do you need to download it?

It comes preloaded on the iPod touch out of the box. You can turn it on and off in Settings, and if it's turned off, it won't appear on your home screen.

Very neat. I just bought a 16GB iPod Touch yesterday. I am going to buy a pair of Nike+ shoes really soon. Technically you don't need the shoes, just make a pouch in your existing shoes, but my old shoes are worn and that warrants for a purchase lol.

ONLY 4oz.? ONLY well for every mile you run, 1oz is 100lb. SO 400lb a mile is a LOT. but yeah i barely notice it at all.

By that reasoning, a 200 lb. person "carries" 320,000 lbs., or 160 tons, per mile.
No matter how you slice it, 4 oz. is a negligible % of your body weight.

No But it doesn't show up on the main menu unless you turn it on through the settings so you won't even see it.
