Is it dangerous to shake?

With the increasing number of Apps using the shake function and the new iPod Touch and Nano using it for song shuffle, how long will it be before a glut of stories stating:

(1) My hard drive came unplugged/chips came unsoldered

(2) It slipped out my hand and hit my granny in the face

(1) There is no hard drive to unplug in the Touch or the Nano. I'd be shocked if the level of shaking that a human arm could produce would be enough to involuntarily break the solder joints. (But this whole lead-free thing is making soldering less reliable in general...)

(2) Maybe Apple needs to sell something akin to the Wiimote straps :)

There are moving parts in the Touch - the accelerometer switches. If you shake it hard and long enough, I guess you could induce some wear on the components.

The chances are that you'll wear out before the Touch does though...

I think apple probably designed it to be able to handle their intended uses. If they're advertising shaking their product, don't you think in today's litigation-happy society that they would have at least covered their asses by making a product that can handle a simple shake?

Er.... this comes as a news to me but does the iPod Touch support the shake to shuffle as well as mentioned by the OP?

I haven't heard anything about the shake to shuffle function on the iPod Touch either but it does have the accelerometer so it has the potential. I know for a fact that the old Touch with the software upgrade does not support the shake to shuffle feature.

Where do you find that the new iPod Touch has the Shake-to-Shuffle feature? I can only find that the nano has that feature. It is described in the Nano user manual but there is no mention of it in the Touch user manual.

If the accelerometer can stand the sudden stop when it gets dropped on the floor, I would worry more about wrist or shoulder damage! :)
