Not trying to steal interest from this board, but check out Spymac's newest offerings. It's almost a literal free .mac package. I've signed up and don't plan on renewing .mac (I made the decision not to renew long before Spymac).

How is it working for you?
Any problems?

I am afraid that it is not bug free yet, and with all the in-house designed features that it is offering, they simple aren't great enough to offset the way the members act.

What does Spymac offer, exactly?

Okay, nevermind. I know now, but I really don't know much about Spymac in general. Is it free? I couldn't find a price for it.

And if its free/cheap, what's the catch? How could they offer so much?

the problem with spymac is a lot of the people... they just aren't as fun as macrumors is...

that and i hate the functionality of their boards. they have too many graphics all over the place with their logo, menu, and chat box.

The service is great...

Its not like they require you to read all the posts or anything. I say take what you can get if its free, and don't take what you don't need if it annoys you.

The only good thing I can say about the new Spymac is that it seems to be a lot faster. Apart from that, I really don't like it. The old layout was better.

I get a bit jumpy about sites that offer loads - I mean how do they fund all this? I also find the graphics a bit annoying after while, but the gallery I like!

It's still in beta testing, by the way.

The coolest freatures are the Weblog/Spydisk, and the shoutbox.

maybe I could rephrase that... spymac has a lot of members that post a LOT of one-word posts. it's annoying. at least on macrumors users generally have something worth saying and don't post for the sheer point of making a post.
