View Full Version : iPhone 2.2 Firmware: What should it include?

Now that the 2.1 firmware has been released, this is what I think Apple will need to add to the next 2.2 update:
Copy/Cut and Paste
Ability to add Attendees to Calendar appointments
Video Recording
Anything else?

* IMAP IDLE support.
* Full support for Leopard Server push email and calendaring (including being able to insert events over the air, invitations, etc. - like Exchange).
Hell froze over the day they made their equipment work with a Microsoft platform before their own.

Agreed on those three alright, not being able to forward rude and inappropriate texts has affected my social standing!
And, of course cut/paste.

How about a turn by turn app? Also, an ability to sync the To Dos from iCal to Calendar? How about the ability to select and go to a specific date in Calendar? What about the ability to just sync certain date ranges from iCal to Calendar? Hell -- how about a whole new FULL FEATURED calendar program!

The Ability To Search Emails!
the selected items quoted above would do it for me.

The ability to mark emails as read! - I like to take advantage of this feature with emails that take a while to load, for instance, some email advertisements that I sign up for. It's not something I can't live without, but it would be nice.
Push - I don't necessarily need it. I might not even use it, but I know that the majority of the iPhone's users would, which is why it needs to happen as soon as possible.
MMS - I know we may never get it, but I feel like the iPhone would be the first phone in which I would really take advantage of MMS. Besides, many of my friends don't have email on their phones... and if they do, they still send things via MMS. I'm in college, so MMS is pretty prevalent. I realize that many people WOULDN'T use MMS, so I'm not going to count on it. I'm fine without it, but I would like to be able to use it.
Copy/Paste - To be honest, I would very rarely use it, but it would come in handy when I got a phone number in a text and wanted to save it without calling it. Plus, without MMS, it would be nice to copy and paste those ridiculous codes. I understand that people in a business setting need this badly!
Deleting/Forwarding/Timestamp on Individual Texts - I hear a lot of people asking what we have to hide if we want to delete individual texts. I don't have anything bad to hide -- sometimes I just want to delete a certain text for whatever reason! I think I should be able to do it. (Like I said, I'm young, so my friends and I have most of our conversations over text. Sometimes there is stuff that is said that I would prefer wouldn't be in my inbox forever. And some of the drunk texts I receive... I definitely want to delete some of those...) As for forwarding, I hate those stupid SMS forwards and do not condone them, but I miss being able to forward a text to a friend to ask what they think. (Or forwarding those drunk texts I receive to a girlfriend so we can laugh about it!) As for timestamp, I just feel it could come in handy sometimes. I haven't gotten able to download 2.1 yet (my regular computer isn't working), but it seems like Apple has introduced repeating text notifications -- which was my only other complaint about the text messaging. Good job, Apple!
Video record - This will likely not ever happen, which is fine because I have never used it on my other phones. I have a digital camera, so I rarely even use the iPhone's still camera. However, because the iPhone is supposed to be an all-in-one device, I think a lot of people would really take advantage of this feature. Sure, the camera isn't wonderful, but it's a cell phone... and my cell phones with less impressive cameras have still offered video record. It would also be cool to be able to take videos with the iPhone and upload them to YouTube. That probably isn't even possible now, but I hope that is a possibility someday soon.
Bluetooth music transfer - My friends on Blackberrys use this all of the time. I get jealous. :) I know we won't get this, though!
It would also be cool to have something like Blackberry messenger, but I won't hold my breath. I also doubt I would ever use this feature.
I realize that Apple probably wants to target business users, which is why I feel that most of these things won't happen. However, the iPhone is incredibly popular in my age group, and these are the things my age group use. I can live without them, but I would like to see iPhone have some of the little, simple features that my other phones have had.
To be honest, though, I'll be fine with my iPhone if 2.1 truly does fix all of the lags and the bugs. I'd much rather them fix the important stuff before adding new features.

I second syncing To-Dos!!!!! I do have a To-Do app on my iPhone, but it gets annoying when it doesn't sync and I have to type my To-Dos in two different places. I would also love to be able to sync Notes. It seems like these would be easy to implement, so I'm not sure why it hasn't happened. In fact, I would rather these things happen than any of the features I posted about.
To add to this, I would love to be able to have a week view on my iPhone calendar -- it would look nice in the horizontal view.

I'm totally happy with my phone as is at the moment and I don't know what should be include, I'm pretty sure they know what they're doin, here's what I know I'd like them to add however.
MMS (duh)
Video capture from the camera.
Marking emails as read.
Editing contact info that's been pushed.
Stereo bluetooth, I hate fm transmitters.
Syncing over wi-fi. (why plug in a cord if I don't have to?)
Making folders in mail so I can click the move and move stuff to them.
Weather app to have a current location feature.

2.1 adds only 1 feature (genius) which whilst seemingly popular wasn't something regarded as missing.
So all we have is bug fixes and something we didn't want, therefore looking to 2.2 is normal.

1) Spotlight Search - a proper all-encompassing search icon on the home screen. Email, Calendar, Contacts, Phone Call Log, Notes, SMS, iPod Media, Photo metadata etc. would all be searchable if so configured in iPhone Settings. It's currently a pain to find specific email messages or meetings. I really miss this from my BlackBerry, and I think it is long overdue on iPhone especially if you're a business person.
2) Notes and To-do Task item synchronization with Outlook, iPhone, MobileMe, and Leopard. I would like to finally stop using Outlook and migrate completely to Mac. MobileMe could be advertised as a great Outlook to Mac data migration conduit if this all synchronized. To-do/Tasks would also be searchable on iPhone using Spotlight (see #1 above). Again, I really miss this from my Blackberry/Outlook.
3) Copy/Paste...seriously.
4) Local file storage to save documents, also with synchronization with the MobileMe iDisk. I would love to have access to certain documents when I'm on the go or out of network coverage area.
5) Dial phone numbers in Calendar items. This would be very helpful in case I'm running late to a meeting, LOL!
6) Improved phone call log that also shows the length of the call.
7) Mark email messages as read/unread.
8) Manage email folders on iPhone.
9) The ability to display a personalized owner/contact message on the screen when the iPhone is locked. I have twice lost and subsequently recovered my BlackBerry because the people that found it saw the onscreen message and called and left me a message. My shortsightedness/bad holster, and their honesty earned them a cool $100. There are decent people out there who would like to return lost property.
10) Remote wipe from the MobileMe website in the unfortunate event where the iPhone is lost or stolen. Remote wipe should both optionally PIN lock the SIM card to prevent usage, and leave intact the personalized owner/contact message on the locked iPhone screen should a decent person wish to return a lost iPhone.
11) Add additional meeting attendee(s) to existing meeting in the Calendar.
12) Ability to add multiple files/photos (from local storage/camera roll) to a single email message.
13) Ability to forward a text message.
14) Nike+iPod support using the dock connector receiver like the iPod nano. I have my iPhone with me when I'm out for a walk or run, so I'd rather not have to take an iPod with me when there's one built into the phone. Let me worry about running my battery down if this is the concern.
15) MMS, although I doubt this will ever be added.
I hope the good folks from Apple sees this. The majority of these items would improve my productivity. Thanks for all the hard work put into giving us iPhone. I love using my iPhone, but numbers 1 and 2 above are my biggest concerns as I'm trying to migrate completely from PC/Outlook/Blackberry to Mac/iPhone. I read an article where supposedly AT&T sales people were recommending BlackBerry for email warriors instead of iPhone. Let's put that to rest by Macworld San Francisco 2009.
Be well everyone.
Cheers,

I miss the Blackberry features to control the email notifications to silent and no vibrate based on time of day. Who wants to hear the phone chirp, or vibrate all night long when new email arrives? Who wants to change the settings every day on the alerts? I don't. I want a time of day and day of week control for all the notifications so I can set email and SMS to silent operation automatically. Is that so hard to do? I can't imagine how this was not brought out before.

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing, but doesn't it already do that? One of the things on my wishlist would be the ability to add terms to the autotext dictionary. Autotext is always changing my nickname (my real name, not my screen name) to all-caps because it is the same as a common acronym. It drives me crazy, actually.
In addition to other things listed here, I would love the ability to send a text to multiple recipients (not forwarding; sending one message to several people at the same time). Even my crappy old super-basic phone did that.

Well said. That's my list almost exactly, just in a slightly different order. I used search all the time on my BlackBerry, as well as copy/paste (its even nice just highlighting blocks of text to delete).
If Apple truly wants to compete in the enterprise, I think they need to come close to the feature sets of other smartphones (RIM, Palm, WinMo). Apple excels in media and UI. The others seem to excel in business functionality. If Apple could make the iPhone even more business like, it'd be the ultimate device

For me, the most needed function would need to be full PUSH with the ability for background notifications on 3rd-Party apps. Apps like AIM and other chat apps would be much better if they were able to receive messages after a person leaves the app. I thought that this would most certainly be included in 2.1

Ability to read anything, including e-mail, in landscape mode.
Landscape mode text input
Organize the icons on the iPhone/Touch via iTunes.
Turn off WiFi by tapping on the icon in the upper left of the display.
Display the time and date by taping on the time. Also show any pending alarms.
When outside of WiFi range, display dialog asking to turn off WiFi or not. Include in system settings.

MMS (duh)
Video capture from the camera.
Marking emails as read.
Copy/Paste
Syncing over wi-fi. (why plug in a cord if I don't have to?)
Making folders in mail so I can click the move and move stuff to them.
That pretty much sums up my needs. I would also like the addition of Nike+iPod in the iPhone.. since its been discovered that it uses the bluetooth adapter to utilize this functionality I expect it to come soon..

That's not going to happen. This isn't allowed by either the music industry or carriers unless Apple gives them each a bigger cut of the profits.
I would expect that is from AT&T not the music industry.. The music industry would only benefit from such an arrangement - AT&T on the other hand would have to dish out more bandwidth to the 3G phones, which I expect is already taking a hit from the App store.

I haven't heard anybody about the lack of attaching a picture to an email.
I wanted to send an MMS to an friend of mine. Of course for the moment this is not possible on the iPhone.
When I went to the apple store and asked why not, they gave me the answer because the concept from apple's point of view was the use of email.
So as happy as I was with this answer I went home tryed to set up an email...damn. No function to attach a file. What the %$^&*. So I can take pictures but cannot do anything more then synchronize them with my apple.
Doesn't that take the mobility out of my mobile iPhone?
So from my point of view. They should at least make it possible to let people attach files to their emails.

Now that the 3G connection issues (for the most part) have been addressed, I'd like to see a '3G Visuals' option within Settings, with the options being: Normal or High (with High, being the same as Wi-Fi).
There's little point in downloading wallpapers on 3G, due to the extra compression. YouTube videos also remain Edge quality, despite the speed increase.
The differences when watching a YouTube video on Edge/3G, and then watching the same video via Wi-Fi, is like night and day. I'd be happy to sacrifice a little speed on 3G, to see videos in their best quality.
A small wish, but a welcome one it would be. :)

Rumor has it that Kevin Rose was probably on to something, even though he was wrong about the 3G iPhone having a forward facing camera, the next gen iPhone should have this capability.
The next gen iPhone is rumored to be all about video. What this would include, would be:
1. A forward facing camera for iChat like video conferencing with other iPhone users.
2. Integration with video iChat (some users on their webcams, some on their phones).
3. Obviously a faster processor (Intel rumored).
4. More integration with YouTube (like the current Helio Ocean capability, you can take a video and upload to your YouTube account). Also, your favorites from YouTube can port over and your iPhone favorites should be able to port over from your iPhone on to youtube.com as well.
5. Obviously, iPhones with larger-size hard drives to be able to handle full-res video capture. Not sure on the capture limit for video at the moment.
6. Rumors anywhere from 3-5 mp camera.
7. Picture/Video messaging.
8. Apps would be able to integrate video blogging, with more possibilities of in-app video narration.

Try and keep this thread to things that Apple could put in the next release.
Things like MMS and A2DP would be great, but are unlikely to be added. There are enough wishlist threads. Stick to a few features, or this'll just be a duplicate thread, and won't be any fun to read.
My thoughts on 2.2:
- Push Notification Service (I think 2.1.1 is more likely if this is all)
- Cellular access to the iTunes store (if the rumoured negotiations ever took off)
- Digital booklets/Videos downloaded to iPhone directly (and sync-able. Shows up in iPod app)
- Usual round of speed bumps, Safari bug fixes, and radio firmware improvements (WiFi, 3G, GPS radios).
If it automatically reconnects to WiFi when you lock/unlock the phone, I'll be happy.
@hirshnoc: stop making things up. Those rumours don't exist - you're trying to make them. For example, they can't just shove an Intel processor in to an iPhone and make it work. The current iPhone is an ARM processor. Intel uses x86. They're entirely different instruction sets. Since your rumours obviously don't need any understanding of what's involved, they basically speak different languages. Applications are compiled for native execution. All applications would break. Not going to happen. Oh, and Apple are also making their own ARM processors through PA Semi. Apple don't have an Intel fetish - not all their products have to be based on x86 Intel chips.

OK, I take that back - whoever started the rumour is an idiot. It won't happen for so many reasons. One of which is the revelation that Apple has licensed the ARM architecture, and can build their own processors with it. And the large number of electronic engineers they recently purchased.

I would expect that is from AT&T not the music industry.. The music industry would only benefit from such an arrangement - AT&T on the other hand would have to dish out more bandwidth to the 3G phones, which I expect is already taking a hit from the App store.
I remember reading that it was already discussed and it was an issue with the Record Companies. They allow iTunes on the phone over WiFi because that technically is the same as a computer (since it's using the same type of connection). If they let you do it over Edge or 3G it would be using a different type of connection, therefore requiring a different contract.
I really don't think that AT&T is going to say no to many things Apple wants to do, after all that is why Apple didn't go with Verizon.
- to be able to lock/unlock as desired the landscape/portrait mode in Safari.
- copy/paste.
- to be able to select a good portion of an email text and be able to delete it, I need this to forward just a portion of the message, it takes too much time to erase what is not needed by using the current delete feature.
There are times when I too could use this function, but I think it is so limited and specific that Apple wouldn't spend too much time working on it.
I would love a full featured contacts app so what you enter in Contacts on your Mac completely syncs with MobileMe and then your iPhone/Touch.
I'm confused by what you mean. That's exactly what happens with my contacts app now. What am I missing?

Saladinos,
I suppose you're right. Just wanted to dispel the rumors that video capture would be a feature on 2.2 before a faster processor came out, ARM or not.
Unfortunately, Apple can't release high-res video capture at their standards until they get a) phones with more storage space, and b) a faster processor that can save a file that big.
Most rumors point to video being a prime feature on the 3rd-gen iPhone, NOT the 2.2 firmware upgrade. Those rumors I listed have all come from either Macrumors, Kevin Rose, or other rumors sites.

Even my crappy old super-basic phone did that.

it's definitely not as easy as on a Motorola, say. They give you a list of your contacts, and you can go down the list checking off who you want to send it to. On the iPhone you have to individually enter the names of the recipients. Not a big deal if you're sending it to a couple people, but if you want to text all your contacts (say if you change your phone number) it is a pain in the ass.

i think that depends on how many contacts you have and how many you are sending the text too. scrolling through 230 contacts to find 5 people isnt as easy as typing the first couple letters of their last names imo

honestly, the iphone is great as it is EXCEPT for one thing:
a "search" feature on the iphone's ipod!!
i have 2000 songs on my phone, and searching for a specific one is a nightmare, since a lot of my songs aren't tagged properly.
i don't think apple will bring this simple feature, because not having a search feature promotes the idea of buying songs via itunes which are properly tagged, and thus finding them is easier.

I had a Treo 700wx before the iPhone and had to switch carriers when I moved. There is some basic funtionality that I feel is missing.
1. Ability to invite people when creating a calendar entry
2. Sort email by name or anything else for that matter
3. Cut and Paste
4. Sync to do's and notes
5. Change tones for notifications(Can anyone hear the tone when an email arrives?)
6. Show upcoming events and user info on locked home screen.
I know there are more I am missing, but for now the iphone is a really neat gadget, but far from a business class machine.

I really don't see much point in MMS, as I don't use it but I'm sure a lot of people would use it. However we will not see it until a the next phone comes out as all the iPhone plans don't include an MMS bundle.:apple::apple::apple:

I really wish there was a cancel-button for text messaging. I always mess up and hit "send" instead of a P, O, or I. Once the text is sending, there's no way to stop it!

Customized alerts for email messages (e.g. high priority vs normal)
Ability to send high priority emails
Better push that does not destroy the battery
Ability to forward emails without downloading the entire message (e.g. BES function)
Canceled meetings actually come off calendar

MMS & Copy paste of course
Landscape text
Landscape mail
Coverflow that only shows the category that you are in (e.g. genre, artist, playlist, podcasts)
Ability to delete Podcasts
Ability to have deletions on iPhone affect next iTunes synch.
Ability to not synch already watched video and podcasts
iTunes over Edge/3G (even if limited downloads as per AppStore)
More message/email tones

There's a lot of the same requests in this list, that have been well documented, and a few that probably haven't. Some are realistic goals, some are fantasy.
In no particular order:
* Flash video link support in Safari (like You Tube).
* Landscape Notes, Maps, SMS & Email.
* Passcode lock certain image, video & misc folders.
* Ability to choose to save streamed videos it fully caches (storage space permitting).
* Bluetooth non-DRM files to other phones/devices.
* A2DP stereo Bluetooth.
* The Remote app to allow Wi-Fi streaming of audio & video (maybe even photo) content from the computer to the iPhone.
* A 'bucket' in iTunes and on the device to save attachments/misc files to (via emails & web).
* Use volume buttons as camera shutter (great for self portraits, party pics, etc).
* More camera software options.
* Lists: search and sort by, in all lists
* Playlist/Category specific Cover Flow.
* Copy & paste (in all text input situations).
* Video capture (even a basic one, to enable you to upload your videos via the YouTube app).
* YouTube: Make it as functional as the mobile site (accounts, comments, Ratings, etc).
* Email: A 'Select All' option, to aid mass delete/move.
* SMS: Option to delete individual texts within a 'conversation'.
* MMS: It should be the same procedure as it would be to email an image (even if the image quality is reduced).
* Option to place wallpaper on the home screens (faded or full opacity).

I have the old iPhone and I built in a dock in my car so that I could control all aspects of it without having to buy a $500 head unit. What would my my life perfect would be for turn by turn navigation to be available on the the iPhone 3G. I would then upgrade and have every device that i would want in my car, on my phone , without any other devices on my dash (like a tomtom or something).
So please if anyone at apple is reading...

Cheers,
ITGuy

Text Messaging - Addition of forwarding, copy and paste, shortcuts for sentences, something to track the number of characters used, time stamping for all messages.
Addition of MMS obviously. As well as the ability to send files via bluetooth. If Apple wants to stop us sending music couldn't they simply allow only user created content to be sent?
Addition of a video camera and more functionality for it.
Further integration between applications. Like links to send a text to a number received in an email.
The ability to remove apps which were pre-installed, I personally don't want stocks cluttering my iPhone...
Lots of other things probably, but I've only had it for a day so far...

Look guys, the thing is that nothing is perfect at launch, but apple im really let down by you. The iPhone is a truly revolutionary device that you aren't letting it get to its full potential. You have had over 1 year to correct all the errors people complained about since launch. And i'm sure that apple has their people constantly checking these forums for ideas, but big corporations don't have any common sense. They haven't listened to us.
-You have no MMS- I have been with the iPhone since a week or two after the original launch back in '07, I currently have a 3G 8GB, and as a kid i love to send pics and you don't allow that. Sure you can target business men, but with your new low price target kids too.
-No option to forward- you dont let us forward texts such as stupid chain mails, or something funny someone else said to a friend.
No cancel option- There is no option to cancel a message if you send it to a wrong person or you typed the wrong thing to a wrong person.
No iTunes over 3G/EDGE- So we can go on the appstore on 3G or EDGE but not iTunes. Seriously apple. Major screw up. Most songs aren't over 10MB so why can't we download the ones that are under 10MB over 3G/EDGE if we can do it on the App Store
Bluetooth- I know you have it but zune can listen to music through their bluetooth headphones, why not iPhone?
Video Capturing- The iPhone was supposed to be an all in one device, but I cant record a video. I always catch a friend doing something funny and I would like to record it.
Landscape Texting- They have apps for emails but not texting, why don't you support it, it can let me have less typos, type faster, and make my friends shut up about how the keyboard is too hard to text on.
Nice add-ons
Google street view would be nice to keep up with the competitors (G1)
A wireless sync would be cool too.
Using my iPhone as a router- There was a $10 app in the store, but i wan't to be able to have this since you cancelled it, I am in the car a lot, and web browsing on my com would be nice, not on my phone, i'd rather have my phone than a stupid AT&T wireless card
Now i believe i have said most basic things that people would like to make their iPhone a more full phone. I mean come on. free phones have MMS and iPhone doesn't. But although everyone requests these features... Apple being the idiots that they are will not listen to their customers about what they want to improve their product.
PROVE ME WRONG APPLE!!!!!!!!

Emailing with landscape keyboard.
Email notification box for new incoming messages when screen is locked.(just like with text messages)
Changing the incoming mail notification sound.
Push schedule: on at business hours and off or every 1 hour(custom) in the weekend or when not working. Just like windows mobile can.
Disable forwarding notification box(es) when calling. this is very very annoying. When i want to use DTMF or Hands free i always have to tap the message forwarding. I frkn know that my call's are being forwarded when im calling so don't tell me every-time i Dial a number im not stupid.
There must be another way to tell me that without having to tap every-time.
Scheduled flight modus on/off. Automatically turn off the phone at night an turn it on at down.

Although I only occasionally would use copy and paste, I can see why so many people want it. Just tonight someone asked me to post an Ebay item number on another forum where I'm a member. Well, I couldn't memorize the number and it was silly to have two pages loaded and try to go back and forth. Copy and paste would have been extremely useful for that. Think about how much you use copy and paste on your computer. I'll bet, if you got it on the iPhone, you'd find yourself using it WAY more than you realize.

erm.. i could see it to be useful in many ways, just to name you a few on top of my head now:
-what if you send an text message and forgot to add (a) recipient, copy and paste would be handy to duplicate the text before, paste it, then send.. :D so much less trouble than to memorising the text and RETYPE THE WHOLE THING AGAIN!! (hate it)
-same goes with email..
-what if you found something really nice on safari and would want to email it to your friend? copy and paste would be GREAT for text or email? instead now we don't have this option??
-to do's application?? how great could it be to have copy and paste?
that's the few i could think of right now(just got up from sleep), there is more to it though!!

The stupid thing about that is that viewmymessage.com works just fine with GET requests so AT&T could easily format that URL to include the username & password and direct link to the message. It wouldn't be as secure as a POST as the username/password is in plain text within the URL but who really cares for a MMS?

You get a text message or email containing the venue for a meeting. From that text message you want to do the following things:
1) Forward the details on to a colleague/friend who is also attending.
2) Add the details to your calendar including the address, etc.
3) Create a new contact for the venue, should you get lost/delayed.
Apple adding copy and paste would certainly make life easier, meaning you didn't have to have a pen and paper to write it all down and type it back in three times in the different apps.

I would really like Jobbs and his team to let us have the option to personalize our iPhones a little more. I know this isn't going to happen in 2.2 but hopefully in future Firmware updates.
I have resisted the urge to jailbreak my iPhone in hope that one day we will be given programs like Winter board to customize backgrounds etc.
I know this isn't as important as cut and paste (not that that is important to me) or Push or MMS etc.
But it really helps make it your own, I'm sure you all know what I mean. Even a few preset themes would be nice (like what the BlackBerrys have!) I'm just getting sick of that black background!

STABLE mobile safari (been crashing since original launch of 1G)
Push Notification Service (APNS)
MMS
Copy, cut and paste
Video recording
Minor tweaks and small features (forward sms etc.)
But we will probably not see any of these in a long time. APNS is up next in 2.3 if it's not included in 2.2. The last on the list come with something small added each fw update

1) Cut & Paste - Should have been here from the beginning but I dont think Apple has a system that works yet. Because apps cant write to other apps in the current iPhone OS so that makes it very challenging to apply a system to copy & paste. In order to do this Apple may have to change alot things in the OS which their not willing to do. So we may never see this but since Apple is marketing the iPhone towards the business class they gonna have to come up with something.
2) Mail App - I think Apple have their killer app here but it needs work. First of all it needs to support push. I use Gmail that supports IMAP IDLE which I think is just as great. I have an T-Mobile G1 which supports push gmail. My emails actually come faster to my iPhone than to my G1 but i do understand why having push is very important. There should also be a way to to mark all emails as read or unread because I receive notification emails. I want to receive them but I don't have to read them so it would be nice to mark them as read. There should also be a way to sync notes and To dos. I'm listing this here because its apart of Mail(OS X)/Outlook(PC). Also since we cant MMS you should at least give us the ability to email multiple photos. Last, I would like to have a screen to see all incoming mail for all mail accounts. I hate switching between accounts.
Really all i'm trying to say is the Mail app on the iPhone should be able to do everything the mail app on my Mac can!
3) Calendar App - The iPhone should have CalDAV support. CalDAV is a standard allowing a client to access scheduling information on a remote server. Let me put this in lame-mans terms. If you don't use Exchange/Mobile Me on your iPhone theres no way to sync events over the air. I use Google calendar so theres no way for me to add/edit/delete/move (add attendees) an event over the air. I have to sync it to iTunes which I don't always have time to do. Its funny because Apple were one of the first big companies to adopt CalDAV support as a standard in OS X. So why not support it in the iPhone? Also I would like to have a week view but thats not that important.
The same applies here. I want my calendar app on the iPhone to do everything iCal can!
4) SMS/MMS - I dont know what Apple was thinking but they got this all wrong. First of all we need SMS forwarding. We need the ability delete individual text. All text should be time stamped. Last but not least we need MMS! Come on Apple your killing me! This shouldve been here by now. I cant even think of a reason why Apple isnt allow this!
5) Bluetooth Profiles/A2DP - I'm listing this but I guarantee this will never happen. First of all Apple has the made for iPhone/iPod campaign. Apple makes money by charging 3rd party companies to make accessories for the iPhone/iPod. If they were to add more bluetooth profiles any company with a bluetooth device could connect to the iPhone/iPod without paying Apple. Also all the companies that already paid Apple would probably sue them. So without more bluetooth profiles there cannot be A2DP. Also Apple doesnt want you to transfer files from the iPhone. Thinking you might start transferring music. Which means iTunes make less money because you can just copy a song from a friend. So I can 100% guarantee that anything that uses bluetooth besides for bluetooth headsets wont be allowed by Apple.
I Know Apple see the iPhone as a iPod that makes calls and not a Phone thats also a iPod. Meaning its a iPod first so Apple intensionally handicaps the iPhone. Which is all wrong. The iPhone has the potential to be the best mobile phone ever. It can be the first phone to truly be your mobile office. Its almost like having your computer in your hand. So why not make it that way!

I'm like the ability to hide the now stupid stock apps like Weather and Stocks. many other apps that blow these really basic apps away. Why do I have to have them now on my phone all the time.

Still think Apple's releasing an ARM processor in the 3gs iPhone?
