Great Dictionary App!

I am studying for MBA and I always wanted FULL dictionary on my iPhone. Well this is it. Don't believe the reviews about crashing. If you upgraded to 2.1, you have no problems. best part is that it even speaks the word for you! (Most of them)

If you have Google app, Wiki app (iWik), Bloomberg app and this app, you will be ready for anything!

Wow, I bet it's great, and the reviews are good -- though I'm not sure I need a dictionary that often to pay $30 for it. I think I'll stick with a free one online.

It's digital version of same book that is selling for $38 at Amazon.

i as going to purchase this a while back but held off due to it's huge size and the problems with 2.0.2 firmware. i will wait until some of the reviews have been updated to see if 2.1 did indeed fix the crashing and bricking issues.

The first app I got after upgrading to 2.1 was the complete Am Heritage Dictionary. No crashes - and it's spectacular. One feature no one's mentioned is its pronunciation key - you click on the audio symbol next to the word and get the proper pronunciation through the iphone speakers. That's nice.

With dictionaries, you get what you pay for. This thing is the real deal - not some tiny toy app but a professional version.

i have no doubt this app will work after a fresh restore. what i'm concerned about is whether it will work with 80+ other apps installed. the previous firmware had issues dealing with large number of programs installed on the iphone and large sized programs.

I wouldn't let concerns about crashing hold you back on this one - Apple has finally released a decent firmware for the iPhone 3G which lets the phone function as advertised. It only took them two months of public beta testing to get it right. :mad:

mavis, i hear you but at over 300 mb (who knows how big once extracted and installed), this one app alone would be the equivalent of quite a large number of other apps.


*edit* i just reviewed the app store reviews for this app again and all the previous 1/2 star reviewers who complained about crashes and "bricking" of their iphones have now revised their reviews to 5 stars after loading the 2.1 firmware. looks like i might be good to go

well i'm downloading it now. keeping my fingers crossed. i have quite a large number of apps and i hope this one gigantic app doesn't take me over the top and i'm the first poor shmuck to get the ALOD with the new 2.1 firmware.

okay i'm happy to report........works perfectly!!! *knock on wood*

what's interesting is that the size of my installed apps according to itunes went from 256 mb to 959 mb!!! That means the installed app was twice as big as all of my other installed apps combined.

with that said, the backup with the dictionary installed only took about 30 seconds if even that. the installation process felt like pre 2.1 times, however it installed fine.

all in all, a great dictionary indeed!!!

I've been using it for a day now. And it works great. If you need the copmplete dictionary app for work or school, buy this. If you just need something more light, there are cheaper ones. This is now one of my favorite app.

I purchased Ultralingua's dictionary right after the App Store launch and I really dislike it. It's slow, often doesn't provide the definitions I'm looking for and it doesn't have partial matches. Just a heads up

I finally splurged on this because I decided that, if I wanted a local dictionary on the iPhone, I wanted it to be comprehensive. This is as exhaustive of a dictionary as I could expect on an iPhone, without shelling out hundreds for an OED.

I bought this app too. I ignored all the bad reviews because I really wanted a full academic dictionary. As far as dictionaries go, this and the oxford american dictionary are the best dictionaries available, unfortunately the full size oxford dictionary is not available at the app store yet, and who knows if it ever will be.

Anyways, if you want a REAL dictionary this is your only choice and its a damn good choice. It did crash my ipod the first time and I had to do a full restore. Since I've done the full restore though I've had 0 problems. Its the best app I've gotten and it makes my ipod an indespensible tool.

Its nice seeing apps like wedict that are free and other lower priced apps but this is a full 7.5 pound high quality dictionary that as someone else mentioned sells for $38 bucks on amazon.

It's worth every penny.
