This is what i have:
MacBook Air, iMac, MobileMe and Time Capsule.
I want to be able to access all my iMac files (and therefore the TC files as it will be attached by wire) from my MacBook Air where ever i am in the world via the internet.
I want to open/edit and save all file types and listen to music (all of which is stored back home on the iMac)
Is there a safe/quick and reliable way to do this?
Also can i share the internet and use the connection at home from my macbook air abroad?
Thanks in advance :-)

Back to my Mac (which is part of MobileMe) should allow you to connect to your iMac's hard drive from your Macbook no matter where you are. However, for it to work it requires certain setup's on the internet connection at both ends, which might not be possible.
If Back to my Mac fails, then you can try the method described in this thread:

Sorry, but I'm not sure what your last question is asking.

Isn't all that you are asking for what MobileMe is for? It keeps all files in the MobileMe cloud for you access anywhere. I don't have it, but always knew that was what it did.
As for sharing your internet connection from anywhere, don't think thats possible without an EVDO card.

The first thing that comes to mind would be the Back To My Mac service that's attached to MobileMe. It's $99 a year an with it, you can access all your files on your home Mac from wherever you are in the world as well as utilize your home broadband connection to surf the web and download files. It's essentially Apple's version of remote computing. Although there have been some problems with MobileMe, especially it's launch, a lot of those kinks have been worked out by now and Back To My Mac definitely works with me.

Yes, once you have connected to your iMac hard disk you can add the songs to your Macbook iTunes library and play. As long as the internet connection is reasonable you should be able to play songs pretty well.

Thanks for all your replies and for being patient with me lol!
if the iMac crashes or the internet crashes etc and i am away from it (abroad using my macbook air) can i sort out the problem or am i stuck until i physically get back to the iMac to reset everything?
Has anyone had this problem? is it common?

Yeah you would have to have someone reset the computer for you. Also, checkout simplifymedia.com for a cool way to share your home iTunes library with your portable machines globally.
