I have VPC 4-point-something and it works fine for the MS office suite (running Win98SE) but as far as games go...I wouldn't recommend it. I've had problems playing Age of Empires 2 (kept looking for CD even when it was in the computer) also the Sims wouldn't run. The only game I've has sucess running was Rollercoaster Tycoon, but it ran rather slow.
This was on a B&W G3 400mhz with 768 mb Ram.
I haven't tried any of the Pocket PC stuff, so I can't help with that, sorry...

I run VPC 4 Win 98 on my G4 Cube - and it goes pretty well. I especially like the drag-and-drop deal between Win 98 and Mac OS.
As far as games go, I' ve only ever tried Cossacks (I recommend it, too!), and it's playable - albeit just. The comparitable speed to a PC with relation to my configuration of 450Mhz G4 @ 256Mb would be an MMX Pentium 2 233Mhz (or thereabouts).
Therefore, older games should run a treat - but tread VERY warily when attempting the big 3D jobbies unless you have a GOD of a G4, maxxed to the hilt.
Better still, wait for the Mac version of the game to stomp onto the scene, and frag your PC opponents online in a blaze of glory.

A company has made a program called Pocket Mac which you can use to sync your pocket pc device.

I use VPC 4.0 with Win98, 2000, XP. 98 seems to work the best for me. Like akuma said.. the drag and drop thing is great. But it doesnt work in 2000 and XP. I havenet had any problems with any apps.. but I dont know about games. It does take a bucket of RAM to work right.

I use VPC 3.5 Dos and have found that dos games play better on my 6500/250Mhz/64MB Ram than they do on my school's 700Mhz Dells or the like (albeit the Dells are manufacturer underclocked to 500Mhz). The largest problem thus far with VPC is that it is not to my knowlege MP savvy and doesn't run natively under OS X yet. Therefore, the computer must share the processor with both the MacOS and VPC causing spikes both up and down constantly (the OS is always on requiring processor cycles). Windows 3.1 comes bundled with software to test your computer's hardware at any given moment. My processor constantly spikes on the Win3.1 scale at 350+Mhz then drops to as low as 4Mhz or so. This is happening so fast that one does not notice it normally, but believe me, programs do notice it under VPC and it can cause TONS of crashes of the VPC environment.
