hmm, I don't like skins and mods...

neither do I like Matrix desktops or screensavers...

I like it simple and neat...

but I suggest that everyone should have either VLC (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14738) or mPlayer (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16623) (or both) and a good messenger client (iChat or Fire (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/8933)?)...

Mellel (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13254) is a nice and fast cocoa-based word processor...

...and NetStatInDock (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11476) can help you monitor your network traffic

and I also recommend Exult (http://exult.sourceforge.net/), an Ultima 7 port for OsX (you need the original CDs though...)

For the Matrix screen saver you'll want Red Pill (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19463) which is probably the best, or at least close.

Then to get it onto your desktop you can use Backlight (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16015), a very nice app. Enjoy!

I try to keep the extras down to a very minimum. I'm skeptical about what will take away performance & what won't, esp with OS X.

I tend to use Photoshop/Image Ready, Nikon View/Capture Editor, Freehand, Adobe Distiller, Dreamweaver, Suitcase, iView Media Pro, Transmit, Mail, Safari and Stuffit Deluxe mostly on my machines for work. These are my "musts."

Then there's iTunes, which never turns off. ;)

konfabulator (for the temp both outside and inside the mac) and iSeek are the only extras i run.

For a simple weather app, and without paying $25 for Konfabulator, then I like Meteorlogist.

And of course, FOLDING, all Apples should have folding running for team 3446.

Hmmm.....I've thought about doing this, but I wasn't sure which to download, and didn't want to research to figure out the differences, so I just didn't bother. :o

I think I may join now. :)

I thought the same as you, but I was bored so I downloaded it today. I guess it is for a good cause, but it makes my fan run constantly.

Photoshop, InDesign, Final Cut Pro 4, MS Office, Safari & iTunes. Everything else is filler for me.;)

Things I think everyone should have

I think everyone should have Aleph One and a version of Marathon.

I think everyone should have at least 1 FPS on their computers.

I think everyone should have a copy of Photoshop or at least some kind of image editor.

I think everyone should have a bit torrent client on their computers as well as kazaa (poisoned for us mac users)

I think everyone should have a secret porn stash on their computers protected by filevault. (Because I dont...really...*shifts eyes*)

I think everyone should have an alternative video player to quicktime (because, frankly, quicktime sucks for playback).

I think everyone should have an open source web browser.

I think everyone should have some kind of idle cycle computing thing (IE: folding, dnetc, etc.) .

I think thats enough for now...

hhmmm... why should a legeal copy of Win XP be on your compy? we are talking about cool things here. :p

i especiall like having quicktime playing, then making it fullscreen and keep it playing in the background using Expose. :D

i also love the falling matrix code as a desktop, but not too often. :)

i'm also going to make some stereo images and have them as my desktop. not the ones where you have to cross your eyes, but ones that you just look at normally. like these Stereo Images (http://www.well.com/user/jimg/stereo/stereo_list.html). i'll see how many will fit... but i want about 20-40 all in one 1280x854 space. should be cool!! :D :D

True. I don't like Winxp, and I guess I don't need a copy sitting ontop of my Mac. It would just get in the way. ;)
