Can only see list view of music with 2.1 3G phone in iTunes 8

When I try to browse my phones music in itunes 8 i can only see a list view and not the grid like I would like. Any idea why? It took a few syncs to get the genius to show up for some reason. I did have a JB 2.0.1 before going to 2.1

Also unrelated can anyone else click the battery icon and have it change to numerical?
