Why is the time on every iPhone on the Apple website 9:42??

You can see yourself here
http://www.apple.com/iphone/features/

UPDATE:
Just checked and its the same thing with the iPod Touch

Maybe it's for the same reason so many digital clocks come with a fake display sticker that reads 12:08. Perhaps it just looks good to whatever art director was in charge of the photo shoot.

I think its more interesting that they list the most recent version as 2.0.2

Seems like someone in the art department is asleep at the switch.

it's supposedly because Steve announced the first iPhone at 9:42 at MacWorld.

What I find interesting is Apple didn't update the iPhone picture for 2.1

http://www.apple.com/iphone/softwareupdate/

Notice the 3G icon it's the 2.0 icon. For a company that pays so much attention to detail they missed this one.

Yeah. There was some discrepancy over the issue of exactly when he was supposed to announce it. I think one of the first iPhone ads had 9:41 displayed, because that was when he was "supposed" to announce it.

Way ahead of you I've been standing outside Apple with picket signs since 2.1 came out telling them to fix the picture. Should be any day now... ;)

I think this thread needs tying together with another one where the OP was obsessing about the length of the different time bars on the new nanos - thinking it might indicate their popularity. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=561672

I don't think this is that obsessive. Apple tend to pay attention to these details. The old iCal icon defaulted to 17 July because that was its launch date, for example.

It should be 4:26 obviously. Hopefully they'll change it soon.
