hey guys i have a lot of files on my older imac which all of a sudden went dead. i was thinking about making an external HD by buying a firewire case and an aftermarket HD. i was wondering, if i get my old 6gb harddrive out and set it up in the external case can i recover my info? this is from a old slot loading G3 imac and i currently have a iBook G4 with osx.3

pardon my dumbness.. the topic is kinda wrong. it should read 'broken imac, make external harddrive?'

Sure, you can get external firewire cases and put your iMac's HDD in there. Usually less than $100. If at some point you wanted to put in a bigger drive, you certainly could.

cool, i was planning on also getting a 120mb HD but the thought came to my mind. would it be as simple as accessing a folder on my desktop?

yeah, it's just like putting a CD in - you access it in the finder. True plug and play.

Try newegg.com and search for 'firewire enclosure' or try the good people at www.macsales.com
