just got my new ipod touch 2g...

now youtube videos when played using the built in speaker are fine and loud enough. but movies i have taken from DVD using handbrake and TV shows i converted from xvid with visualhub are too quiet.. i can hardly hear them, and would be useless for showing friends unless we were in a totally silent area..

is there anyway i can make the videos louder when i import them?
thanks

This is most likely because you're ripping Dolby Digital which is a lot more dynamic than regular PCM stereo. That means that there is a larger range (gradient if you will) from silent to loudest than with normal stereo.

Handbrake has a Dynamic Ranger slider (under the Audio & Subtitles tab > Audio Quality). Use that and it will compress the dynamic range so that quiet scenes are louder. It's a lot more complicated than that but that's what you'll notice when listening and that's what you want.
