Potential Switcher- Interested in 17"PB

I am interested in switching to mac from winblows. I am a developer that needs to be able to run Oracle and Dreamweaver on a local machine and was wondering if a 17" pb with 2 gig's of ram will do the job? Should I consider desktops instead?

Do you need a laptop? You could get one hell of a G5 for the cost of a 17" PB w/ 2GB RAM.

I do a lot of work from home as well as the office so having the same machine no matter where i go would be great. Do you think oracle needs more than a 1.33ghz to run smoothly in the background?

it should run well enough on 1 gig, with 2 gig it should definitely have no problems. if you think 17 is not that portable, i take my pb to lectures all the time and so far its size or weight have not been a hinderance

That's good news! Thank you. I just pulled the system requirements for oracle on OSX: Mac OS X Server "Jaguar" 10.2 version 6c115 or later. Does this mean i'll need to buy and install OSX server on the PB?
