I just noticed since last night that links I used to be able to click on to open the App Store to a particular app on my iPhone don't seem to be working anymore... I am subscribed to the iPhone Applications RSS feed in Google Reader to see new apps as they are added... I used to just be able to click the links and it would find the app in the App store for me but now I am just getting a "Cannot Open Page" error in Safari, has anyone else had this problem???

I've had the same issue lately. No idea what's causing it, but at least you know you're not alone.
Seems it's only happening on the iPhone itself.
The same links from Google Reader still work fine on my PC.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

Same here.
I couldn't link to the App Store from my iPhone to download the istockmanager app. I had to do it from the computer to work the link.
Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Same thing here. I think it's the 2.1 update, because before that it was working fine for me.

iPhone 2.1 disabled this from mobile Safari for whatever reason.

Yeh, they've stopped it working for the phone but the links still work on a computer.

Someone said it doesn't work on 2.0 either, which would indicate an itunes store server side issue.

Where is your link coming from? Email? The issue described above is with links IN mobile safari.

I believe the issue is 2.1 related... Apple needs to hire a new QA department and stop relying on us end users to do their testing for them! Although I'l happily live with this particular issue in 2.1 seeing how they fixed the lion's share of the application install issues!

If you notice, links don't work from safari or other apps. Unless its an admob ad, then it works. What could cause this to happen?

Do you think theres a way to make the link so it emulates what admob does?

So, no one knows why Apple pulled this functionality? No word of a security risk? No PR person saying that the functionality will return in 2.1.1?

You have an example of an admob url?

My guess is that we're not dealing with a URL but with a direct application call. If that's the case, I doubt there's any way to 'emulate' that.
