View Full Version : Bluetooth file browsing on a Nokia 7650

Does anyone know if this is possible?
Although I can send and receive files to and from the device (7650) using bluetooth file exchange, I cannot use the browse feature to navigate the phone's directory structure and upload or download files.
I've searched high and low on the net for an answer, people do not seem to have a problem browsing Sony Ericsson phones, but I have yet to find any one who has been able to browse symbian series 60 OS on a nokia using a mac.
Any help, or an answer as to whether it is possible would be much appreciated.

Iīve got a 3650 and Iīm also not able to browse...
Itīs because u need the Nokia software which is on the cd that came with ur cellphone. But for that cd you need a windows pee cee. I was looking for a mac version, but nokia sucks...
My fatherīs got a windows laptop with infrared -> this works
I will trie to install the Nokia software on my vpc and report.
Dave out.

I think this is a Bluetooth Profile issue. The profiles supported by the 7650 are listed here: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/support/viewsupport.php?id=34
Note not browse profile. The special windows only software must be to get arround this basic failing. Nokia really dropped the ball with this phone and it's patchy bluetooth support.

7650 is ancient history and the first of its kind (series60). at that time when it was developed, the standards were a moving target. (i was consulting nokia r&d team as a build manager when that model and the colour communicator was not seen in public. at that time there was no alternative to proprietary nokia pc-suite.)
things are better now that the open standards are finished and nokia's current series60 model (6600) should comply; unfortunately, bluetooth implementation in 3650 is not much better than 7650.

Thanks for the replies guys, very useful. I guess the answer to my original question is a "no" then.
Another question following on from JFreak's replies.....if the latest series 60 phones are now more mac compatable does anyone know if the forthcoming nokia 6230 running series 40 OS will be equally compatable?
Cheers
