How do I get out of the spinning wheel of death?
I'm considering draining the battery, as no key commands will work. I tunes doesn't see it and neither does ZiPhone.

Did you try hard resetting the phone? Thank you for your response, fireshot. It will not hard reset. It has been spinning for hours.

Then, Try to see if the battery will die out. If not, Then you will probably have to take it to the Apple store..

Actually, I took off the back case. connected the red and the black on the battery and it shut down. Now I'm stuck on a different screen. THIS ONE:

While I have it open, can I do anything in here?
(PS, what can the Apple store do that I can't with the right directions?)

Well, at this point, replace it.
Oh, nevermind, you opened the case, so they won't replace it.

I believe that is DFU Mode and normally you would be able to restore it with iTunes.
You really shouldn't have taken it apart now you have voided the warranty.

DIG THIS!
I disconnected it from my Powerbook and plugged it into my MacBook and boom: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."I click ok, i click restore and it asks me: "Are you sure you want to restore your iphone "iphone" to it's factory settings? All of your media and other data will be erased, and the newest version of the iphone software will be installed." So I click "Restore and Update and the spinning wheel goes off on the iPhone...
extracting software
preparing iphone for restore
preparing iphone software for restore
restoring iphone software
verifying iPhone software
verifying iPhone restore
Restoring iPhone firmware (3 min on this step)The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1011) And alas, this is the screen it's giving me:

I have never seen that screen before in my life.

It's already out of warranty! Jesus, how many disclaimers do I need to put in my threads?
It's like, nobody here except 3 people actually knows anything. Everybody's always like "is it plugged in?" "dude, like send it to apple".

That screen just means that the iPhone needs to be restored. It's quite common. Obviously, your phone doesn't want to cooperate with the restore process--you've tried doing a normal restore, and it didn't work.
I've been in the same situation, and got out of it by using the Pwnage tool (it's in lots and lots of threads in the Hacks subforum, so I won't bother finding a link) and following the instructions VERY carefully. I had to do it 5 or 6 times before it worked, but eventually all was well.
I also made sure I was using a USB port directly on my computer rather than on a hub, and I disconnected all other USB devices. I have no idea if that helped--it's just standard procedure for troubleshooting.
I've never had the error message you got though--I had error 1600 and error 2001. A Google search for your error message would be wise, but probably useless.
I assume that you opened the case because you're comfortable with that sort of thing, and that you didn't break anything.

Tommy just follow and one of the sequences will fix your problem. Recommend that you restore as a new phone and just start over.
RESTORE IPHONE:
Step-by-Step
1) Close all programs and restart computer.
2) Open iTunes and plug in powered off iPhone with direct USB connection.
3) If iTunes fails to connect to iPhone...continue to #4, if it does...restore.
4) Shut DOWN iTunes again.
5) Power OFF the iPhone & Disconnect from computer. (Power off two ways-one will work, hold home and sleep button until off or just hold sleep button until off)
6) Hold down Home button & connect to computer using direct connected USB cable (keep holding down the home button until iTunes sees it).
7) It should go into recovery mode and iTunes should recognise it.
8) If you want to recover to previous software version, Hold Alt/Shift and click restore in iTunes. Then select the old update version.
DFU MODE:
Step-by-Step
1. Turn the iPhone ON
2. CONNECT it to the computer with a DIRECT USB connection.
3. Make sure iTunes is open so you'll know when it enters DFU mode.
4. HOLD the Power/Sleep-Wake button AND the Home button for 10 seconds.
5. RELEASE only the Power/Sleep-Wake button and continue to hold the Home button.
6. WAIT until iTunes recognizes the phone in DFU Restore mode (in Windows a bubble pops up saying it recognized new hardware "DFU Mode" or something to that effect)
The last step may take SOME TIME, like, say, even 60 seconds or so.
The screen should be OFF (black), if you see the "Connect to iTunes" logo, START OVER.
It may take a few tries to do the steps just right, just reboot
(hold both Power/Sleep-Wake AND Home until the Apple logo appears and the phone turns back on) then try again.
7. Then restore the iphone
Good Luck

Where exactly did you mention it being out of warranty?

It's exactly the screen I've gotten each of the several times I needed to restore my iPhone. I sincerely doubt that there are subtly different versions of that screen which indicate (to the 3 Apple techs in the world who know the code) subtly different problems.
Either you get that screen, you get a black screen (usually meaning you're stuck in DFU mode--been there, too) or you get a normal screen with an error message.
The main point is that sometimes it takes a bunch of attempts to get the thing fixed. I don't know why, I just know it to be true from personal experience.
