10.5.5 Update Causing Issues

After installing the 10.5.5 update, the Macbook in the house has started to run slower. Its constantly running up the fans too. It sits on a desk 90% of the time, so its not an issue of improper ventilation that I can think of. Anyone else seeing this? (How do I check the temp etc. on a macbook?)

A lot of people including me use smcFanControl. It allows you to control your fan and tells you how hot your laptop is running. I like it.
