What is the data signal in this picture?

I got this the other day after my iphone dropped yet another call on 2.1...

It's the symbol for GPRS

GPRS < Edge < 3G

Circle for GPRS
E for Edge
3G for 3G

GPRS used to be a dot in a blue box.
