How long did it take you to get your avatar?

This question is twofold: how long did it take you after you first joined to reach 500 posts, and how long after your 500th post did it take you to get the option to upload an avatar?

Took me about six months to make 500 posts, which I just accomplished today! Yay! :) Still no option to upload the avatar, though. I hope the option will be there tomorrow.

[Edit: it took about 45 minutes to get the option to upload my avatar and about another hour for it to appear in threads.]

took me FOREVER to reach 500. i have dramatically picked up the pace though as of late. my post count used to be around 0.5/day and now its like closing in on 4

I never thought to look it up before!

The answer is that it took me exactly 180 days to reach 500 posts after I joined MacRumors in 2002. I didn't bother to add an avatar right away after reaching 500 posts because I hadn't yet decided what avatar to use.

As I have learned, that was because the avatars are stored on another server. It takes a little time to get them in sync.

The reason it's taken me so long to get to 500 posts is that when I first signed up here, it was to subscribe to a keynote updates thread (or something like that). After that I basically lurked for aaaagees, only really reading comment threads for stories. I eventually noticed how often these forums came up when I was troubleshooting or looking for info about this and that and I started posting regularly in the last, ooh, year or two? Anyhoo, it's great here, but I must run — time to design an avatar!

For me the difference was only about 50 posts. My "official" 500th post was this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=758808#post758808), where I was confused about the same problem -- how long does it take for your avatar to upload?

In my case, it looks like it took about 12 hours.

Using Dr. Q's search technique, the 500th post I made was this one (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=755929#post755929). Both posts came pretty close to six months after I registered.

It looks like I've kept up just about the same rate since then -- I'm now closing in on 5,000 posts.

How about 1px per post? So you get an avatar after your first post, but its only 1px x 1px. By the time you reach 500 you have a decent sized avatar, but even at 10,000 posts its not crazy big.

About 3 and a half years to get my avatar. I only used to post sporadically. It is a nice milestone to have though. Most sites give you instant access to an avatar. I like the MR system. It probably makes people get more involved in the site than they would otherwise.
