How long did it take you to get your avatar?

This question is twofold: how long did it take you after you first joined to reach 500 posts, and how long after your 500th post did it take you to get the option to upload an avatar?

Took me about six months to make 500 posts, which I just accomplished today! Yay! :) Still no option to upload the avatar, though. I hope the option will be there tomorrow.

[Edit: it took about 45 minutes to get the option to upload my avatar and about another hour for it to appear in threads.]

took me FOREVER to reach 500. i have dramatically picked up the pace though as of late. my post count used to be around 0.5/day and now its like closing in on 4

the option will be there, just give it a couple hrs

Heh. I see now that I have a link below my nick, "Phrasikleia's avatar", instead of the picture showing. I suppose something needs to propagate in the system, but I think it's funny that a link shows up in the meantime. I really don't understand how these forum servers work.

I never thought to look it up before!

The answer is that it took me exactly 180 days to reach 500 posts after I joined MacRumors in 2002. I didn't bother to add an avatar right away after reaching 500 posts because I hadn't yet decided what avatar to use.

On the search page, fill in your user name under "Search by User Name" on the right. At the bottom, set "Sort Results by" to "Last Posting Date" and "in Ascending Order" and "Show Results as" to "Posts". After you search, go to the last post on Page 20 of the results. That's your 500th post.

It took me 454 days from when I joined, 16/1/2006, until I got the 500 number on the 14/4/2007. As to when I uploaded my avatar I believe it was pretty soon there after.

This isn't accurate for the 500th post that counts towards getting an avatar if you have ever posted in the PRSI forum. ;)

Or the console and marketplace threads and threads that have been sent to wasteland.

I'm rather shocked by this because since then, I've made 6,197 further posts, at an average of 6.34 per day for the last 2 years, 8 months, 4 days (978 days).

Excluding, of course, the posts I lost after the Spamtastic event and other excludables mentioned by OllyW.

Looks like I was a slow starter. :)

And I had been lurking around here since probably sometime around the end of 2004. My post rate is still under 2/3 a post per day.

I think I probably waited a couple days to upload an avatar. It wasn't a specific goal I was aiming for like some others around here seem to gun for.

As I have learned, that was because the avatars are stored on another server. It takes a little time to get them in sync.

Oh my, I joined 6 months ago, to the day, and I have 2,076 posts (11.28 posts per day). :eek:


EDIT: Thanks for the tip, Doctor Q. 500th post on May 4, 2008, 43 days. Take that, Red. :p

It took me 63 days to reach 500 posts.

I had my avatar ready to upload immediately. It only took a couple of hours for the option to show up, but the 'tar didn't show up until the next day.

Alright - thanks for that tip. Took me 10 months to get to post 500.
