I just bought a refurb 17" imac. Everything is perfect, except the fan is alwasy going. I have owned imacs before, and I remember them always being quiet. Is there something wrong with it, or is that how the new models are?
The fan runs even if I do not have any programs open at all??

Actually I have owned an 17" 800 and a 17" 1gig and they were both very, very quiet. I guess by your comment, you consider them to be loud.

I think he was referring to the older CRT models.

Anyway, I have an iMac 800 17" and the fan never stops. You can barely hear it when it is quiet.

It is not too loud, I just do not remember it being this loud. Although, I do have this one in an enclosed armoire, so the acoustics might be playing a factor in the noise.
