Time capsule and security of data

My 1TB time capsule, with a lot of my important data, is broken. It wont connect and I get strange clicking noises. Only option is to send it for repair to Apple. Or throw it away.

Call me a paranoid freak, but I would like to know that if someone gets hold of my time capsule and repairs it, can they just read and copy my data? I have of course given a username and password when I created the time machine account inititially, other than that I dont have any specific security measures.

I know for a fact that in windows, to read data off a hard disk, you just plug into another machine and you can see everything, no need for passwords or anything.

Sure they can, but normally they don't because it's illegal to do so. However if you're really paranoid, you should consider just buying a new TC.

So they dont need the password to browse the time capsule files?
