I would love to see PowerMac updates, but I need to move to a notebook for several reasons, so I am most eager to see PowerBook updates. I think the PowerMac updates will happen much sooner, though.

The only reason I'm waiting for a PowerBook update is because I can't afford one for another couple of months, by which point it will be late in the product cycle and worth waiting for whatever minor speed/feature bumps or price drops might follow. If I could afford the thing today, I'd be buying it right now. A G5 would be nice, but I'm typing this on a G3 iMac (500MHz -- Indigo), so whatever incremental progress I can make processor-wise I'll take.

Waiting for the Powerbook G5 to be updated, in the hopes that an iBook with a new form factor and processor will be released soon after.
So, that means I am saving $$ and expecting a Nov. 04-Jan 05 spending spree.

Powermacs, but not exactly an upgrade of the current line.
As an early adopter of a SP 1.8GHz G5, I'd like to see Apple offer a simple upgrade kit, so that my SP 1.8GHz can be a DP 1.8GHz.
I know that Apple really doesn't like us customers to pull chip upgrades because it doesn't move boxes, so I'm not even asking for a bump in clock speed...just a modest bump for just those applications I use that really leverage DP'ing. Afterall, if G5 clockspeeds are really going to take off as fast as Steve Jobs had been claiming, there's going to be a pile of otherwise surplus 1.8GHz G5's laying around, so what's the harm of getting another, say $300 out of me today for one of them before they get in the hands of the aftermarket chippers?
I also know that I don't know how hard this is - internal component matching stuff, etc - but I do know Manufacturability Engineering, so I'd be very surprized if Apple purposefully designed their motherboard to NOT make manufacturing changes hard...I'm keeping in mind that the SP1.8, DP1.8 and DP2.0 are all using what appears to be essentially the same motherboard.
Granted, it might be a bit more than a literal "Plug-n-Play"...might need to actually change a whole jumper too...but the degree of difficulty is low just adding a second G5 at the same clock speed because the bus speeds, RAM ratings, etc, etc, don't change.
FWIW, has anyone tried this conversion on their own yet?

Nothing for me, right now. But I think iMacs need a complete overhaul, and Power Macs should get bumped up halfway to 3GHz. Other than that, it' all good.
BTW, last night I dreamt that I won some contest and they gave me an iPod mini, only it was the pink kind. What gives?

I'm awaiting the Powerbook updates, something along the lines of the rumors for Feb 2.
That being: 4x Superdrive (or a 2x drive that write 4x DVD-Rs at 2x)
incremental G4 speed increase
more VRAM would be good
bigger hardrive would be good
price reduction
This about covers it. I don't want a G5 as I don't want to have to upgrade Virtual PC. I'm thinking that with the next time I need to uypgrade my Powerbook, I won't need VirtualPC anymore.

They just have to update the 12" because the 12" ibook is so cheap and so good.

PowerBook.
I want a 12" PowerBook, but it'd be nice to get a few of the high-end model features trickled down to the low-end (I concur about the backlighting). Waiting for it to get a major revision beyond the minor rev it got late last year.
It's got more power and features than the iBook, as well as looking nicer (silver vs ice), but I don't need the massive 17" screen or even the large 15". Resolution is more of a priority than outright size, but I only really need that at my desk, and the 12" AlBook will happily drive a 1600-wide 20" display.

My wife informed me today of a problem with out 466 clamshell iBook. It seems the power connecter on the machine has decided to become flakey. You have to plug the power in just right, and then push down on it a little in order for it to charge.
It's been a trusty machine and while we are nervously trying to coax a little more life out of it until we can save some money for a new one, I've been looking at the current 12" iBook. I've very disappointed that you can't get the 1GHz in the 12" form factor. Hopefully, new ones will come out this summer.

PowerBooks!! I promised myself that the TiBook was going to last me until Apple put out a PowerBook with a next-generation processor and enough new technologies to make upgrading worthwhile, or for 5 years, whichever came first. With the integrated Bluetooth, AirPort Extreme, Superdrive (I didn't get one the first time around), and back-lit keyboard, all they need to do now is put a G5 in there and I'll be jonesing for a new PowerBook.
An Honorable Mention for Other: I'd like to see Apple come out with a genuinely new and exciting hardware product fit to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Mac. I'm not even going to say what I'd like it to be, because I want it to be something I'd never have thought of. Surprise me, Apple! (and in a good way, I hope)!

I voted for other because I want the new 30" apple display to go with my daulie 2gig g5. I really think that the updates for the displays are coming soon, and the 23 inch disply is a little to small for me. I know, the 23" too small . . . yes when I am used to using dual 21" at 1920X1440 resolution.

AppleWorks 7
iPhoto 4.1 where you can have multiple libraries without having to jump in an out of the program. iPhoto Library Manager does the job as well as can be expected for a third-party app, but I've never understood the reason why Apple can't build that functionality into iPhoto. Every time I go on a trip or to a event I like to have a library for that. I don't see why I should have a hughe monolithic library of everything.
Also, I should have to keep spare copies every time I make a change. I'd like to be able to commit to changes I made and get rid of the originals. iPhoto Diet works great, but why do we have to have a separate program?
iTunes 4.3 where you can authorize different computers to share different songs or, at least, playlists. What if I want to let two of my friends who like Classical music share my Classical collection, and two of my other friends who like Alternative to share those songs?

I'm torn between the iMac and iBook(or 12" Albook). I have a 466 clamshell that is showing it's age (bigtime) and, like someone pointed earlier, trying to coax a little more life out of it. I just can't decide between going back to a desktop or staying mobile.

You all have heard this before but here it is, I would like a aluminum imac that has a curvy oblong base with built in pro speakers on each side that pivot. I like the pro's but hate wires. I would like this imac to have a mouse with a scroll wheel thats cordless, a keyboard thats cordless, a door on the side of the machine that allows access to memory and the AGP slot. in that agp slot a standard 9600 video card or option for 9800. it needs a 2.0 G5 to make up for motorola not doing anything for years. 17 " or 20" monitor that you can disconnect from the base so you can keep it because monitors last longer then computers. I want all of this at $1999 or less. anyone else want one?

I voted "Other" because I've been waiting for over a year to see the LCD monitor line get updated.
Apparently, it's not going to happen soon because our local Apple store has a full inventory of monitors.
In addition, I would like to see a dock for the PowerBooks which caters to those of us who use both a supplemental keyboard and monitor on our desktop. Try something freeform and slick which holds the PB vertically, showing the Apple logo, and slides the connectors into the side (AlBooks). This wouldn't allow the PB display to open, but who needs it?

the ipod batterys are over dramitised It is the same battery used in many pda's it is of the highist quality.
They can be replaced by apple or you if you are compedent of your abilitys (I am)
I voted other because apple needs to bring it's whole line on par
the only things that should remain g4 should be the emac and the ibook compare the difference between the tibooks and the powermacs of the time and the difference between the alubooks and the g5's it's silly
the 90nm g5 is perfectly fesable to put in a powerbook it uses around the same power as the 1ghz g4 and only a bit more heat.
compare the specs of the 970vx and the 7547 and they about the same the only obstical being a new logic board and case desighn.
what i would like is imacs and powerbooks g5atized and emac + ibook speed bumps the g5 powerbook would be made of aluminium but have an option of upgradeing to a titanium case for around $200 also they would have a radeon 9800.
12" 1.4ghz
15" 1.6ghz
17" 1.8ghz
same with imac but with bumped screens.

I would guess you'd need a new motherboard. I dont think the single 1.8 baords have a slot for a second processor, do they? If they did, it would be as simple as buying another chip. Thats what I did with my Compaq about a year ago. (dual Xeon board, shipped with one proc, I bought the second a couple months later)

We're never satisfied, are we?!
Updated LCDs for me - I'll be in the market for one about June/July - need VGA and DVI input as well as ADC (got a PowerBook and would also like to have a dual input for the PC). Not really bothered about 30" unless it forces the price of the 23" down.
I'm really happy with the PowerBook as it is at the moment - the G5 range needs a speed bump as well to keep people buying.
I wouldn't expect an iMac G5 for some time yet. A consumer - pro-sumer headless Mac is always needed - c'mon Apple!

This option is actually a bad idea for several other reasons as well. Heat disipation of titanium and aluminum are different so cooling might have to be designed differently. Handling of the two metals are different and would require different assembly lines. Also, the motherboard would probably be different to handle the two different metals. And so on.
Like I said a bad idea for this to be an option. If you don't like the anodized aluminum look, you could always have your powerbook painted.

My first computer was an iMac with a 266 MHz G3.
My second computer was a DP PowerMac with 800 MHz G4s.
My third computer will be a laptop with at least 1.6 GHz G5.
Until then I am happy to keep using what I have now. Right now there is no software that two G4s cannot handle.

Well, if I don't get my cube than this is my second choice. Very important for me would be that you can keep the monitor.
I just don't see me buying a new monitor every 3 or 4 years just because the machine is outdated.

I'm just waiting for AppleWorks 7 to come out (or whatever it will be called). Even if there is just an updated word processor, that would work great for me. I'm starting to find more and more things about AppleWorks that just don't suit me very well. MS Word is a decent program, but it is made by the evil empire and it tend to want to 'help' you...which always is annoying and never helpful.

I see the PBs and iMacs being updated to G5s around the same timeframe, with the iMacs coming first. I'm sure Aple would want to ideally release the G5 iMacs close to the release of the G5 PBs, since they wouldn't want to update a consumer model before a pro model, but yet I don't think Apple is going to hold a new product back just for that reason. As for a 20" eMac, I doubt it - ther eMac is targetted towards thhe education market, and I think that desk space is definitely an issue when it comes to that - a 20" may simply be too big, and too heavy - the existing eMacs weigh quite a bit as it is already! Mind you, I suppose a 20" screen would be nice for some eduation applications...
I'm with you on the iPods - hopefully the next round of updates will occur in the next couple of months and we will see either increased functionality, price drops, or increased capacity for the same price. And when they do get updated (I'm hoping around April) I'll definitely be picking one up!
As for the 3 GHz G5s, they'll definitely be nice when they arrive, but since I just bought a Mac, I'm indifferent towards them, at least in terms of wanting one quickly so I can purchase it. Since my new Mac will last me the next 3 years, roughly, I'll just be waiting for the G6 or G7, whatever is out at the time.

eMac:
It definately needs better graphics, like a FX5200-as currently it has ATI Radeon 7500 which is way behind and outdated- it should have a more graphics card such as FX5200 that the iMac has. Even Intel Extreme Graphics (used in many low-cost PC's) on the PC is better than a 7500 .

for desktop use i already have a dual 867 PowerMac G4.
it works well, though a bit loud.
but i usually put on my ear phone and listen to my music, so it doesn't really matter.
