Ok kind of unsure why i am getting this on start up on my 17 inch powerbook? when switched on it flashes a globe for about 12 seconds then flashes a file for about 10 seconds then load up the operating system? kinda bamboozled.

I know that when the flashing file means it cand find the hard drive( i think) so unsire what to do? shall i just reinstall Panther? see if this helps?

:(

I'm not sure at all, but that sounds like it's trying to Netboot. Try putting the panther CD in, boot off that, (holding c). Go to startup disk and make sure it's not set to put off a network drive.

Hold D while booting. It will boot from your HD.

...I mean, it's always worked for me.

In System Preferences go to Startup Disk (in the top bar). Make sure HD is selected and not network.

That is definitely NetBoot.

PRAM zap should do the trick too. (sets it back to internal disk startup)
