Please, I would love to hear from you about CoD4's performance on Macs, considering that the game has just been released for sale (including digital downloads).
And NO, I am not talking about the PC version running on Macs...I wanted to know about the native Mac version and its performance. Thanks!

You can get it from Aspyr GameAgent....... but that is not a good idea. Crazy DRM. Just get it on Amazong :P.

As much as I don't like this DRM crap, it seems like it's only a problem if you don't back up the file after downloading it...after all, the code serves for 3 different authorized machines if you ever change them...

Has anyone downloaded the game? and if so what kind of download speed were you getting from aspyr?
It's 6GB

I am reading elsewhere that the physical CDs are reporting issues. some people are getting authorization failed errors, and Aspyr has acknowledged errors on the CDs.

oo id like to know too.. also would anyone know if a PC version cdkey will work if i get my hands on a mac version? i own the pc version and moving to bootcamp to play games is starting to annoy me.
i finally have starcraft on mac and now gw runs pretty good on vmware 2.0

I'd be surprised if the PC cd-key works on the mac version which is a port by Aspyr (as far as I know). I know the cd-keys for the sims games I bought for my daughter don't work with the mac version ported by Aspyr.

I tried downloading through Game Agent (digital river), and the file downloaded at about 300-400 KB/s, but kept cutting out and resuming.
Then it said it downloaded, but actually wasn't complete (only was a file size of 2.81 GB when it should have been 6.81 GB). Then, when I went to try downloading it again, it stopped quickly, and said I couldn't download it any more. I went to the site, tried over, and it said I had downloaded it too many times.
I don't think I'm ever going to try and download something I pay 50+ dollars for. I'd feel more comfortable having a dvd in my possession. Now I have to wait for their customer service to respond. And then, if they don't quickly solve the problem, figure out how to get a refund and order through Amazon. What a waste of time this all has been (my only consolation that the product itself is a thing created to waste time, :P).
Peace

I'm currently at 4Gb out of 6.81GB and i'm getting the same speeds so it must be Aspyr's servers.

We're probably best off just clicking the download button then leaving the computer overnight (or for the next day lol)

Downloading from Australia, 120k speed, this is going to be a long download. Curious to see how it performs on the 8800 Imac vs bootcamp. Also want to know if I can copy the user details across, anybody know? Getting to level 50 again with all my weapons took ages.....

- Downloaded yesterday. Took forever. Like 300k/sec forever. In fact at ~2.8GB it crapped out and canceled itself so I had to start it all over again. At least in Firefox, Aspyr's claims of just restarting the download where it stopped are bunk.
-Performance is alright I guess. I run it at 1920x1200 and it runs pretty smooth. Then again I had to disable shadows, glow, AA, AF, and specular maps to get it to run smoothly at that resolution.
-Would I buy another game from Aspyr's gameagent? Probably not. The download speed is ridiculous when you're downloading a file that big and games just aren't getting smaller.
-I might have to borrow my friend's Windows copy and install it for a comparison. But at least for now I don't have to reboot just to play a game.

You dual boot for better download speeds? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Actually yes. You can buy CoD4 on Steam. You'll almost definitely get better download speeds through Steam than through Aspyr.

OK, different servers for Mac and PC, this sucks hard
Can you copy over profiles from PC to Mac, the answer is no
Is the performance as good, I'd say it's about 5fps behind (from feel)
On the positive there's a new effect that distorts space when explosions go off

That's a deal-breaker, how stupid is that! Sticking to bootcamp then.

My bad........COD4 for Mac is currently running on older servers with version 1.5.549. So there is still hope that the Mac version will become as up to date as the Pc version with all subsequent releases happening simultaneously.

I've tried to get it last night but, gamers from Europe are not allowed to DL it from the Aspyr GameAgent...
So, are the in-game grfx as good as they are in the PC version (or shall I stick to the bootcamp/XP/CoD combo?)
How 's the gameplay? No delays, hick-ups? Bugs?

I'm interested to know how the mac version of this game compares to playing the PC version in boot camp. Performance-wise, say, on an alu iMac 20"

Same for me...
Shall I buy the 'combo' or just download the universal bin from Aspyr GameAgent for a good/excellent game experience?
(I used to be a pc-gamer a few years ago and since my pc is replaced by an alu iMac 20"...:D)

On the positive there's a new effect that distorts space when explosions go off
FYI: the distortion effect can get really annoying and can rob some fps in multiplayer. If you want to shut it off open the console and type in:
r_distortion 0.

The server version is a bit older, and all it needs is an update, but there is still over 400 servers...and yea, you can play with pc'ers, just gotta manual join...

I download CoD last night. Took 3hrs, so I just left it and this morning was ready to play. Installed this morning no issue. Started playing multiplay a little, not used to playing on the computer. Seemed to run good. Don't know what is good vs. bad. I have everything turned on, but I don't think I am playing on the highest video setting. Need to play with it some more.

Imac 3.06 8800 4gb ram
COD4 in Windows - 35-60 fps (depending on the level, grass hurts the fps)
COD4 OS X - 30-60 fps
Settings for both operating systems:
Full resolution
AA-off
V sync-yes
shadows-no
spec map-yes
DOF-no
Glow-no
Dyn lights-low
Smoke edges-yes
Ragdoll-no
Bullet-yes
Model-normal
Water normal
Not bad results, would be interested to see how the ATI 2600HD perfroms, my guess is that it may best the 8800 in OS X. Anyone?
Edited the results after playing a number of levels in each OS, i'd still say that OS X is a 5 fps shy of windows, but pretty impressive considering...... now for some low ping servers (-200) in Australia please.

I have a rev A macbook pro that uses a core du processor, but it runs at 2ghz so does ths still mean its incompatible.. i find that really strange if it is as its essentially the same. Surely saying its only compatible with core 2 duo is just a generalisation seen as most intel macs are core 2 duo now.
Has anyone run this on core duo?

Im having the same problem. I downloaded it twice, both times it got to 2.81 then stopped and 'failed to mount'. Just shot off an email to support, hopefully they'll get back to me soon. Has your issue been resolved yet?
Has anyone successfully downloaded it off Aspyr's Game Agent?

I've just checked some Dutch forums and in a few of them, some users were able to download (<2hrs) and play the game in the Netherlands.

Currently on my third download attempt from Aspyr/Digital River.
For some reason in one spot I was getting over 100kb/s and now I am getting about 30-45 kb/s I just hope this speeds up as I would actually like to use my computer for more than just one thing over the next TWO days I am estimated to wait.

Can you please tell us once you get it if it requires you to have the DVD/CD in to start/play the game. That would be the most helpful info ever. Thanks!

I already confirmed that with Aspyr. The only way you can play the game on multiple machines is with the actual DVD from retail(You do need the game in the drive to play it). Direct download is 1 machine only. This way, I can play on my imac and macbook pro.

It runs good on my macbook pro 2.4ghz with 2gb of ram. But i would like to use a ps3 controller to play it. Does anyone know how to do this? I know its possible because i've seen many threads about it but no one seems to ever give a straight answer as to how to do it. Can anyone give me a straight answer? I'd really appreciate it.
