Dvr-ao6u Will Not Work

alright I just bought a Pioneer DVR-AO6U and put it in a firewire case. I am hooking it up to my 800mhz G4 iBook. Toast does not see it or any other program the drive goes busy about every 3 sec and stays on for a sec.(it also does this when it is not plugged into the firewire??) On the Pioneer drive box it does not say anything about working for a mac only windows.
Any ideas because I am plumb out of them.
I thought these drives came w/ Mac's????

Well after playing w/ the drive for a while i found that the drive worked fine on my G4 tower also it would work fine in my external firewire case. So it was my cheap case so I am just going to buy a all in one external package for only 200 and it is a pioneer 4x
