Hello,
I've got some home movies I made that are on DVD and I want to rip them to my MBP but I can't get iTunes to recognize the disk. What other options do I have?

I'm having trouble getting my Mac to recognize peripherals in general, and when I insert the disk I get a message that I've inserted a blank disk, and Mac doesn't recognize it as a mounted device. So I guess that leaves me out in the cold...

Have the discs been finalized?

No. Disks are old and were never finalized.

If the discs are not finalized, they won't be recognized by any DVD playback devices other than the original recorder (or similar model). What device were the discs originally recorded on?

Oh geez, it's been a few years... I don't know what the original machine was - we have so much trouble with recorders failing on us... I'm just trying to clean up my movies and get them organized on Mac. But I guess this is one that I will have to let go. It does play on a regular machine OK, so it's not like it's lost forever...
