I am trying to fool around with applescript, and i heard that each program has a dictionairy that shows the script commands for it under the program menus and scripts. when I go to services/script editor, all options are dimmed. how do i access the dictionairy

You can't use any of the options if you don't have a script open, whether it's a new script or an existing script. Try making a new, blank script to see if that activates the options first. I haven't used Script Editor, so I don't know exactly how you get an application's dictionary. (I have used the Mac OS 9 Script Editor, just not the Mac OS X one.)
