ok so i know there are programs out there for pc that let you put .avi files onto a dvd-r so that they can be played on a dvd player. i thought iDVD would let me do this, but it doesnt support .avi. can i just do this in toast? does anyone know of a program that would allow me to do this?

First you need to process them with DIVX Doctor (http://doctor.3ivx.com/) to make them .mov-s that iDVD will recognize. Then you drop the .mov-s in iDVD and Voila. That's the simple A to B of your question.
