how do you transfer itunes as ring into iphone?

I am trying to use a song from itunes as a ring and I went to the apple store and they explained but it's not working. Right now when I open ringtones at the top the box is empty. They told mer to hit the + button in the bottom left corner to open a playlist. Then select songs and transfer into the playlist. After this I'm lost because they told me then to go into Itunes library and select the songs so I selected a couple from the library. Then they told me to go back to the summary folder and sync ringtones but there's no ringtones anywhere in the summary folder.

Also you can make your own ringtones with the audiko site. I've used it and it works good.
