after downloading .doc in safari...

after downloading (.doc or .xls) files in safari, they're saved as name.doc.dot and name.xls.xlm ..... This is really annoying because i wanna open them as word/excel documents rather than notes/numbers. Do any of you know how to fix this and just save the file as name.doc. Thanks a ton!!!!! :)

Click and hold the filename until you can edit it. Delete the unwanted suffix. When prompted, select the suffix you want to use (.doc or .xls) and this should in almost all cases solve your problem.

thanks for the reply, but that's what i do currently. I wanna know if there's a way to do this automatically.

this happens to me too... I think it is an Office 2008 bug. Really annoying to have to manually change the file name after every download.
