Turn off SMS reminder

Is there a way to turn off the reminders that you have an unread SMS? I know a lot of people were excited about this feature, but I'd rather it be off.

Is there a way?

ask yourself this:

does what I'm about to ask, seem logical?

if the answer is "yes", then apple didn't incorporate it into the iphone.
if the answer is "no", then apple did incorporate it into the iphone.

logical or not, i find the second alert annoying and wish i cold turn it off.

I thought the same thing... I get messages that I don't want to look at or respond to and my iPhone chimes 3 times... Gets annoying sometimes, but at other times I was like whoops, didn't hear that the first time!

If you didn't hear it the first time, how did you know there was a first time already?

The time the message was received, then I look at the current time at the top of my screen, but thanks...

I don't mind additional reminders....but I want to change the sound.

1st Alert: Normal SMS Tone
2nd Alert: Beep
3rd Alert: Beep

That's it. I just want to be able to tell the difference from an incoming SMS and a reminder by the sound it makes.
