Stupid prosecutors. It's a slam dunk case on many fronts, but because of they way they handled witnesses and evidence, it'll likely end in a mistrial. BTW, a recent poll in Ak showed that most Alaskans will still support Uncle Teddy even if he is convicted. Looks like his re-election bid isn't over after all.

A mistrial doesn't mean he's off the hook. The prosecution has the option of pursuing a new trial, should that be the result in this case.

And on a political level, Stevens was gambling that he could get this done before November and clear his name. Now it looks like this case will still be hanging over his head come election day.

No argument, but the prosecution should be fired for ethical lapses. That they felt it was necessary to suppress evidence is alarming. At any rate, based on recent polls, Stevens is still supported by much of the electorate. Of course, the fellow he's running against, Anchorage mayor Mark Begich, was just dinged by the Alaska Public Office Commission for failure to disclose $ too - just like Uncle Ted. What a crappy choice.
