I decided to break this down into two separate questions:

1) what normal product can I find in any store that is safe and effective to clean my glossy macbook screen with?

2) what's the better stuff to use, that I probably have to order online?

Thanks

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

I've had some luck with the iclear stuff that Apple sales.

just use water. very very lightly damp cloth, then dry cloth... microfiber better.

iclear is great... but i'm convinced it's 99% water and 1% some sort of cleaning agent.

DON'T use anything alcohol or ammonia based.

A damp microfibre cloth is the way to go!

Your MacBook should have come with a small black cloth, that works wonders cleaning the screen too. It's a kind of microfibre called Ultrasuede.

another vote for a water-dampened microfiber cloth. You don't need something like iKlear. I've been using water for 2 and a half years and my screen is scratchless and spotless.

I lick it clean.

Though seriously, I just use a microfiber cloth.

I have used iKlear and some of the others. IMO there is no need to buy those products. Like others have said, water and a microfiber cloth works just as good and is free. I did buy the Radtech cloth because I cover my keyboard with it when I close it. Great product or you can just use the smaller one Apple gives you for free when you get your Mac.
