View Full Version : My theory on the "brick"

So what i think of when I hear brick and computers i think of the power supply. Now with the new teaser of a laser beaming out onto an apple logo I think I may have something. yes, it may be a little far fetched but apple is also known as a pioneer. Finally, I believe the new macbook line will be SOLAR POWERED.

Hey don't be so mean to the OP. It's just a guess, however unlikely since laptops won't primarily be used outdoors. Usually indoors and the 'light" it will receive will probably be from lamps and some stray sunlight from windows.

i wasnt mean lol

but i mean solar power? seriously? thats just wanting to be teased at

I agree it's far fetched, but wasn't there a patent a while back about having solar panels under the lcd screen? Even if it's not 100% powered by it, it would be cool to have that to add an extra hour or so to batter.

still not going to happen though.

I doubt it'll happen. The tech isn't practical yet. I know that most solar backpacks that are designed to charge laptops take a day or so of daylight to charge your laptop up completely. I think that anything solar on Macbook will only give you enough power to run and get the power adapter.

Remember the wireless-charger rumor? Right before Mac World 2008?

Are you kidding me?

My theory is that the the rumor started from someone saying "it's all about the brick" rather than typing or writing it, and they were actually referring to the "BRIC" -- an acronym for "Brazil, Russia, India, China," the four major emerging economic markets.

It's all about the BRIC? We'll see....

That would be hella fat if it had a solar panel inside.

I know someone who works at Apple in this department and I can say with confidence that the solar panel rumor theory is pretty spot on. Every seen a solar powered calculator? Apple has done some amazing things with that technology...

My dog works in R&D. He said the new MacBook would have a glass body instead of a plastic one. The trackpad is made of diamonds, and the prices start from 59P ($0.35).

I can also confirm this to be true.

Really? I thought they were reserving the glass body and solar power for the upcoming Mini-tower?

Solar power at the moment sucks, it takes hours to charge a radio... It will happen for laptops, phones etc. in a few years maybe, but not yet.

a few years huh lol

im thinking over a decade+

solar panels have not hit high wattage density capabilities yet that would even be feasible for laptops. and once they do, it wont even be economically feasible at first

Yes, yes, and I think you are completely right. I have two theories about that, though.

One, the new macbook will be solar-powered, that is, powered by the SOLES of your shoes (meaning that in order to recharge it you would have to either step on it or kick it real hard).

Two, the new macbook would be solar-powered, that is, powered by the sole fish (as in dover sole). This means that in order to recharge the new macbook you would have to submerge it into a tank full of bottom-dwelling fish.

;)

Or they'll ship a tesla coil with every macbook for wireless power...
