Versiontracker has a list of the fixes, and the ones that I wish I had two weeks ago are the fixes for WinXp install and startup. I takes freakin 3 hours to install XP under VPC/OSX. Twice, within hours of install, it crashed then started blue screening on startup. It would try a disk check and freeze 17% though the check, even using a fixed disk image.
I'll be downloading the update as soon as I get to work!

Yeah, when I installed XP under OS X it took me 2 tries .... 5 hours...and XP still crawls! I hope this fix speeds it up a bit. I just tried to download it and still couldn't connect to the server...sonofa

Guys, I can't get it either. I can't even connect to connectix right now. They must be getting flooded with hits right now. Lets all be patient, and we will all have it by the end of the day.

Same problem here. The connectix page cannot load. Just goes to show how popular their product is :)

As soon as I get it, i will put it on a web server. Not having much luck now though., Oh wait, I got 336 bytes per second, only 18 hours to go.
So i set up a cname to my laptop, macrumors.net.cmu.edu, it should be up by 11 am ExT. I have a gigE connection to a few OC-3s, so once I download it, it should be good to go.
I will be in a meeting later today, and am taking my laptop with me, so i will set up another cname,
macrumors-wl.net.cmu.edu for my wireless connection. Once i am home though, youre all out of luck till tommorrow.

Still trying to download it...
Has anyone else noticed that the transfer always fails at 2563 bytes?
I will post here as soon as the file is ready to be downloaded.

I just called Connectix (got a real person in less than three rings!)
They said that they have techs at the colocation site "working on the problem"
So, I am going to take a break from trying to download the update for a few hours.

Well that is good news. I just want to hear from someone that has it and give us a report on it. How is speed? Improved? Give it up.

The server is up, but it still will not download. Does anyone have it yet? Please post a review if you do.

I've just downloaded and installed it. It's deffinitely faster. A couple of neat new features: There's an option for doing the ol' ctrl-alt-del, you can password protect your settings, you can control the level of CPU usage, both in foreground and background. There's a bunch of others too. Suffice it to say that this is a worthwhile update, and seems to have sped things up a little.
I haven't had much of a chance to play round with it loads, but it looks good.

I give up for now, if I can grab it at home tonight, I'll put it up for download at work tommorrow for my fellow macrumors :-)

I have just installed it. It seems to make it run slower on my system! It just feels slower.

Odd... whilst navigating around the finder (i know that's the term used in OS X, but i like it :)) it seemed much more responsive. I've got 512MB RAM allocated to VPC, but that's the same as i had with 5.0.2. Did you check the levels of CPU usage assigned to VPC? I have mine set to maximum usage. That might be your problem... then again, it might not ;)
Even if it does feel slower for you, at least you've got the extra features this update brings.

The priority is set to High. Its probably no slower than before. I guess I was hoping it would start to perform as I wanted it to do!
A question to everyone. Which is faster for VPC? Windows 2000 or 98?? I keep hearing different opinions!

Went to the Connectix site and was able to download from the mirror. Here (http://mirror.services.wisc.edu/mirrors/connectix/vpcm503_updater_052902.sit) is a link.

If it's needed (and i don't know that it will be anymore, but just in case) i've uploaded it to my public folder in mac.com. You can get the file by going here (http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=schwuliduck&templatefn=FileSharing7.html&xmlfn=TKDocument.7.xml&sitefn=RootSite.xml&aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en).

Read what O'Reilly has to say about XP on a Mac (http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2002/04/24/xp_on_mac.html).

So it is ready, you can get the updater From here (http://macrumors.net.cmu.edu/vpcm503_updater_052902.sit) as well.
From 1:30 till 3, you will have to get it from macrumors-wl.net.cmu.edu since I will be in a meeting then.
It is all pretty moot now, since the mirror on the connectix site seems to work well (you'd think that they would have thought about setting up a mirror before releasing the update).

Prior to this update, I found that it was really quick. I was completely happy with VPC prior to this. Now, my God, you cannot even use it. This sucks. I love the new features, but man, this is really friggin slow.!!!!

I have mixed results. On my iMac G4, it does indeed feel a lot slower, but on my dual 800 QuickSilver, it feels about the same to maybe a little slower. Not as bad as the original 5.0 release under X, but absolutely no great improvement. Perhaps we will have the back and forth upgrade path.. one that adds features, and a few months later one that makes it fast enough to use. Not a great plan in my opinion, but I suspect people will put up with it for now.. since there's no viable alternative any more.

Same here. I just decided to remove the 5.0.3 fixes. yea, the features are neat, but not worth the speed loss.

Odd, I don't have that problem. Just saved the state, and quit. Loaded up again, no scandisk. Hmmm.

OK,
Here is the deal. This thing flies in 9, and I mean flies. XP is faster than any other Windoze OS under 9. These update look like they are geared towards 9 and 10.2. It is also much faster under Jaguar than it is under x.1.4.
Anyone else see the same?
