I know this forum is more geared toward discussion of music and not so much the buying if equipment, but this is the best fit I think.

I'm looking to buy a new alto saxophone and am wanting to know what brand and models people seem to lean toward these days. I played in high school and always wanted a Selmer Mark VI, but it was way too expensive and I think a newer instrument would be better. I still have my student horn, but it's seen much better days and it's really not worth the time to get it serviced.

So could someone recommend what are some good options? I have a soprano from woodwind & brasswind which is pretty decent, but am wanting more options. I know the player makes much of the sound, but I want somethiflng that sounds open and resonant. My student one always seemed to have a more muffled or stuffy sound

Selmer. Get a Selmer. They make the best sax's in my opinion, I know they are expensive but they are WORTH it

I have a Selmer alto, and I believe the Tenor I rented was Selmer as well. I was satisfied with them.

If you're serious about it, Selmer Reference 54. If you want a great player on a budget you should look into Todd Oxford saxophones.
