About to update to 2.1 Question.

Okay, here is what I have:
Vista Ultimate Laptop, iTunes 8, 8gb iPhone EDGE with 2.0 unlocked and jailbroken.
I want to update to 2.1.
I downloaded the custom IPSW here (http://www.iphone-hacks.com/downloads/file/148), and I want to restore in iTunes to the custom 2.1 firmware.

Is there anything else I should do before I restore?

*and please don't tell me that I should have searched, because I did. I just want to be absolutley sure that i'm doing everything right and Won't mess anything up.

Sounds like you got it covered-I am a MAC person, but if you have downloaded the custom IPSW you are good to go-I usually make my own, but I do know there are "premade" ones out there.

Do you know how to get phone in DFU mode?

thanks for your response, I have actually decided to just make my own custom firmware. I don't really want installer or cydia, so I will manually check to not add those If I can. And I don't really trust the wherabouts of the firmware. Yes, I do know how to get into DFU. Thanks

I HIGHLY recommend CYDIA-not Installer though-if you do NOT install Cydia, you are missing some GREAT APPS, that, while you could SSH to your phone-why would you WANT to?

Skip installer-you won't miss anything-skip Cydia-you miss A LOT! :eek:

I have cydia on my phone now and I hate it. Literally everytime I open it, it freezes up and I have to do a soft reset, plus I don't really want to customize my phone at all. (I know, I'm boring)
So winpwn succesfully unlocks 2.1?

Weird about Cydia, never freezes on my phone.

I use mac so can't answer for sure about winpwn-but 2.1 is cracked, so I am assuming winpwn will do the job for you.
