I already had Windows Messenger installed on my MacBook when I bought it but I noticed that it's very basic, nothing like Live Messenger where you can use webcams and have voice conversations etc. I downloaded another version from the MSN website but it turned out to be exactly the same. Is there such a thing as Live Messenger available for Mac and if so how do I install it? Many thanks.

If you search the forums here, you'll find hundreds of threads about this.
Try Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/) or aMSN (http://www.amsn-project.net/) instead. The official client is worse than a punch in the kidneys.

I second the Adium vote, it's the best messenger I've used. I'm constantly switching on Windows to find something but I'm never happy.
Unfortunately it doesn't have video/audio support, so you'd have to use aMSN for that.

Yeah, no good solution for this problem, unfortunately. aMSN is the closest you can get, although it's ugly and messy (IMHO), other software doesn't support video/audio chat.
Microsoft has been announcing a windows feature-comparable MSN client for OS X for quite a while now, but they only released a corporate version, which sucks. Hopefully they will fix things soon or at least provide up to date protocol specifications so that other people can do it.

As a MSN user, not having a really good msn client is the most painful thing about using OS X
aMSN kinda takes the pain away since it is the most feature rich (including webcam + voice) msn app for Mac.

Hope this helps!
Luckily, aMSN 2 is being developed and it will give a greatly improved msn experience on a Mac.

I would highly recommend either Adium or aMsn, I have and have used both many, many times.
On the other hand, if you REALLY want Live Messenger THAT bad, use VMWare Fusion. Parallels sucks, in my opinion, and there's no point in going through all of the bootcamp process just to get Live Messenger.

Hi all,
I have just installed vista thru vmware fusion - which works great - got some much needed programs working - so I'm really pleased.
The problem is with the much wanted program was windows live messenger - it works ok for text but the video side won't work.
On the windows side - it can't find the drivers for the isight cam - not a major problem as I wanted to you my external logitech cam anyway.
My logitech cam is detected and I've installed the logitech drivers and the camera works great - but for some reason when I try to set up the cam in messenger - it says it can't do it :( you go to 'Audio & video setup' and it says 'we are unable to run audio and video setup' - can any one help please??
