Well, i was having one problem.

I wanted to see a DVD with Front Row. So every time i insert a DVD Front Row opens automatically. I choose the DVD option, it said loading and then... Kernel Panic. That happened to me for about 4 times in a row...:(


BUT before this i installed some updates but i didn't repaired permissions. When i did that the DVD option from Front Row was fine!!:confused::eek:

So my question is if repairing permissions can help someone to avoid Kernel Panics or that thing that happened to me was by accident?

PS:I saw 2 movies in a row and didn't have any panic attacks....!

In other words, rituals and perceived panaceas seem to be a persistent presence in human life :p ;).

So far as I can tell, repairing permissions may help in some specific circumstances, but is way too often suggested as a panacea. Kernel panics happen for many reasons... show Console.app to a programmer friend and they'll likely tell you what caused the problem. Recent panics for me have ranged from errant USB ports to CPU laziness. If you want, post the most recent output of panic.log (again, from Console.app, it's in Applications/Utilities). Perhaps someone knowledgeable will be able to decipher it.

EDIT: I believe there is also a log somewhere when the Repair Permissions script is run. It might be worth checking that out to see if FrontRow (or perhaps some framework it depends on) is implicated in the results.

The presence of Nvidia and GeForce in there makes me think something went wrong with the graphics card or graphics driver. I'll leave any further analysis to people who know what they're doing through.
