Macbook+22inch monitor?

Can the integrated graphics on the macbook support the 1680x1050 resolution of a 22inch monitor?

It can support up to the 1920x1200 on the 24"

go for a 24" monitor as 22" uses the same resolution as 20" but streched a little more. 1920x1200 on a 23"-24" is amazing.

But 24" also cost a lot more.

I Wish I had a 24 myself but my 22" Acer is fantastic with my MB, especially @ $189.

The answer is yes. I'm doing it right now and it works great. It is also plenty powerful to run both the external 1680x1050 and the built-in 1280x800 screen at the same time.

Yup, I run a 24" at 1920x1200 and play games, use Motion, Final Cut Pro and all sorts on it. So yeah, it works!

You can buy a 1920 x 1200 27" monitor as well which will work fine. I personally like them as I find the same res on the 23" or 24" a little too hard to see things.
