why can't i delete the my "junk mail" contents?

for the life of me, i can't delete the contents of the "junkmail" folder in mail.

i select all, i move to the trash folder, i select empty trash. it seems like it worked, and then in a moment it's all back in my junk mail folder...


am i missing something?

Make sure that Mail is setup to remove messages from your POP server. This can be found in Preferences > Advanced. There is a checkbox that should be checked. Otherwise, the next time it fetches mail, you are going to have all the same messages as before.
