See that "L" shape at the top-right? Almost as though a spotlight is hitting just the corner of some object? It looks very much like the corner of an Apple-designed notebook computer. I bet this event is about new notebooks!

Will this be when we see Quad-core MBP's? Apple has gotten Intel to get them processors before the rest of the industry before.

If this is the time for Quad-core MBP's, mine's going on eBay. Any takers? It's a $4,400.00 notebook with all the software.

WOW, Finally!

This will mark my entry into Mac ownership. I am looking forward to seeing exactly what they offer which will determine what I will purchase. So, after about a year of waiting I will finally replace my CoreDuo Windows\Linux laptop with a shiny new OSX\Windows\Linux notebook.

When I looked there were 44 positives and 1 negative...What gives? For the life of me I cannot imagine why someone gave this a negative.

Using Photoshop measurements, and known sizes of current 15" MBP and 13" MB, that laptop is either 15" (14.1 / 9.42) or 13" (12.78 / 8.54)

I bet no Mac Mini update if its only notebooks.

When will Apple update the Mini?

Grrrrr!

Actually my friend and I were just talking about that today. If the rumors are true and the new MacBooks are to sport an Nvidia chip, why would you buy a Mini? All you have to do is plug a monitor into your MacBook and your have a desktop machine that would be way better than the Mini. You'd have a great desktop and a portable for on the go. If they put a dedicated graphics card in the MacBook then I think the Mini is dead. I see no reason to put a dedicated graphics card in the Mini. They'd cannibalize their iMac/MacBook sales.

I think the Mini will just go away with no mention by Apple. Kind of like the iPod Hi-Fi. Now you see it, now you don't. The Mini was supposed to be a super cheap Mac for people that wanted to make the switch but didn't want to invest a grand in a new platform that they may not like. So it was a way of getting PC users to switch for as little cash as possible. And sure, you could get your feet wet for $499. That's a good price. But then they went Intel and the price went up to $599. Now add an Nvidia card, $699? Suddenly, that "under $500 Mac" isn't so cheap any more. In fact, it's not that much cheaper than the supposed new $800 MacBook. And we all know Apple loves selling MacBooks.

Yes my friend, I think the days of the Mini are numbered.

...Suddenly, that "under $500 Mac" isn't so cheap any more. In fact, it's not that much cheaper than the supposed new $800 MacBook. And we all know Apple loves selling MacBooks.

Yes my friend, I think the days of the Mini are numbered.

I paid $380 for a Mini from the Apple refurb store. It was a good deal at that price. It's a 1.25Ghz G4. It is still useful for the web, email and iTunes. Apple needs to either sell a Mini for well under $500 again or kill the product.

The mini and the macbook have always shared an internal design. If they can make an $800 MB then they cam make a $500 Mini. After all the Mini is just a MB with no LCD screen, no battery, no touch screen and no keyboard.

Hi guys!

When the first "Brick" case image leaked someone measured the dimensions to check form factor and screen size of that computer....

Based on the Apple logo that we see on the event invitation image, could someone measure the form factor of the notebook that we see on the image?

The logo seems to be very large compared to the overal lid size... Maybe a subnotebook? a 10" ~ 11" US$ 800,00 subnotebook?

Oct 9, 2008, 12:07 PM
Whatever they are showing in the ad, it's much closer to 16:10 than 4:3 ratio. I measured a rectangle from the visible corner to the center of the Apple logo as opposite corners and calculated the ratio from that.

I came up with a rectangle 155x102px. A 16:10 rectangle based on the 155px side would be 155x97. A 4:3 rectangle would be 155x116. So, 5 pixels off of a perfect 16:10 and 14 pixels off a 4:3.

Just when me, a potential switcher, was considering going for a Vaio SR (hey, 13.3 inch 2.4 Ghz laptop of good build quality AND dedicated graphics for the same price as a top-spec MacBook?), you finally come out with something concrete! I want a really good quality 13.3 notebook, with the os-X factor being a very nice novelty, but not a necessity. Oh well, I can wait a week. I just sold my old Dell Latitude (hey, their business notebooks aren't that bad...) in anticipation of an Apple notebook event. I already have a desktop I built for gaming and hard-core number compiling.

Just think, aluminum 13-inchness, with dedicated graphics, perhaps? Throw in OSX and you've got me sold over the other 13-inchers out there. :apple:

This is extremely exciting!! I have been waiting since June. This will be the first Mac that I own. I am a student, web developer and do computer repair. My 3 year-old HP laptop deserves retirement. After making the wrong move and purchasing a Vista machine in June (which thankfully has a buyer and will be out of my hands next week) - I'm ready to go Mac!
I have visited the nearest Apple store (about an hour away) a few times in the past few months and almost bought a current Macbook Pro - I'm soooo glad that I waited!

I know nothing is ever written in stone, but if they are released the same day, does anyone have a guess at the time these machines will be available? I'm assuming as soon as the event is done. I am just trying to make some tentative plans... maybe go crash at my friends apartment the night before... he's only like 5 minutes from the store.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but yesterday I discovered that on the Online Apple Store, there are hidden "new" icons next to the Macbook and Macbook Pro. If you go specifically to one of the computer pages, such as for the Macbook Pro (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro?mco=MTE4NDY) and view the source code, look for "new.png". The icon that appears next to both of these products contain a stylesheet class called "new-icon", which as defined by the external stylesheet "aos-family.css" includes the style "display:none" which is why your browser does not show the icon yet. The "new" icon is ready and waiting to be turned on by removing or overriding this one line of code! Those who know how to turn styles off in their browser (Firebug is my best friend) can see the icon appear, it is the same one that currently appears next to the iPods.

I'm very excited! Good luck to everyone on release day - I hope there are more than enough to go around!

First pos.... argh dammit!

The logo is lit from an outside light source there, wonder if that has any significance ;)

(I very much doubt it, but we might as well cover the possibilities!)

Glad to hear it. Was starting to wonder!

Did any notice that they put the period at the END of the sentence??? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!?!? I think it means that they are getting out of the notebook business.
Watch out for Hop ons! You're gonna get hop ons!

I compared the size of the Apple logo with the sitze of the complete cover. It's the same like my 13" Macbook!

man, this takes a load off me. Told the wife not buying a laptop for her until after next week. Had there not been an event, my wife would have hung me because I have been putting her off for weeks.

lol

HaHa
I'm in the same boat we've been looking at PC laptops today instead for something cheap inbetween the release.

In the past I remember that the online store has product displayed the same day it is announced but how about the Bricks and mortar stores? I'm in London, UK and am flying to greece on the Thursday. Does anyone think they will be in the Regent Street store on Wednesday or in Dixons at the airport on the Thursday next week? I know there is no real answer to this question unless you work for apple but could everyone give some guesses?

Thanks and a big WHOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!! :):):):):):D:):):):):)

I don't think there are any hidden meanings in the graphics of the invitation. I simply feel that the spotlight is pointing to Macs now because many Mac users, including myself, have felt that Apple has put the Mac on the back-burner lately.

My first Mac. Should I order online or try BestBuy? Will BestBuy get it at the same time? Same exact price for same features? Pros and cons of each retailer? Tired of waiting so time matters, but so does price. Guide me!

I'm going to be sad seeing my Blackbook becoming old hat obsolete. There will have to be significant gains to motivate any investment in a new model during these times of financial uncertainty.

Is the Mini ever going to pick up any of these upgrades?

well, it's an event so that means it's better than just a small speed bump.
but then there is not a lot to update to. only the more obvious things like less weight, led screens, montevina and that.

so i guess they will unify the three lines (MBA, MB, MBP) with a similar look. Specs will be what is realistically expected here on the board (no Blue Ray, no Touchscreen, no WIMAX, no Quadcore and such stuff).

And there is some hope for a real price drop at the low end books.

Well, I will wait another 6 weeks till the rev A problems (if there are any) are worked out and then buy whatever book is light but fully featured and powerful with a great screen. could be a top end MB or a mid range MBP.

good that i bought a new battery for my Powerbook G4 last week. so i can wait a bit more now.

But then that means prices are going up, since it's shining from the top.

OK, I need to stop now. :)

Best Buy usually gets them 2-4 weeks after the Apple store's do. Better/easier return policy w/Best Buy though, plus a lot of them are Apple certified now to take care of AppleCare warranties.

I wonder if this is the new touch screen iTablet PC.
Basically, a Macbook Air, but there's no folding - it's just the screen part and the keyboard is touch screen.

This makes me wonder.

I've never really thought about getting a MacBook, I've always been happy with just a desktop. But if this alledged $800 pricepoint means a sub 500 MacBook I may finally take the plunge for when I'm out and about.

Which means of course that if Apple are pursuing an aggresive pricing stratagy to increase marketshare, it will have worked! :D
