What has been the wait time if any for the past few upgrades or new releases? I seem to remember they are available the same day but then again there are a few products such as the time capsule, etc. that take another month to be actually on the store shelves. Thoughts?

Only Apple products I can remember being released and available on the same day are the iPods and the Mac Pro back in 2006. Most take about 2 - 6 weeks depending on consumer demand and popularity (so about 2 for the Macbook).
Although who knows, since this is a new product and they haven't been updated in a while, they might be available in a couple of days.

Can you pre-order in-store, rather than online? I heard something about not being able to take your notebook down to the store if you bought it online, if there was a problem with it... 😕

i could go to a apple store (or a best buy in my case) tomorrow and say.
"hey, i want one of the new macbooks next week."
and it is reserved for me on launch day?
i know we all want it, but what's the rush people? are you not going to buy it if you have to wait an additional few weeks?

Similar to when they "released" the Air, it was announced and then they began talking pre-orders. They shipped in two weeks if I remember correctly...

Pre-ordering is only online and only if Steve doesn't say, "Shipping today!"
You can't reserve anything at a physical store.
Especially when they don't even have the hardware yet.

I was really hoping they would be available Tue. I have been waiting to see if there was going to be new ones before buying, and now that the event is announced I definitely will be getting one. Sooner would be better.

Apple released the redesigned alu iMacs the same day as the announcement in August of '07. I think there is a good chance since we've been hearing stuff about stores receiving shipments.
